Trying to solve this constipation problem
Hi there my friends, Here is a subject I just feel so embarrassed to talk about...... ..."CONSTIPATION" This was a problem for me before WLS and now it is more of a problem now. I had hernia surgery a few weeks ago and I am still sore. I don't want to strain too much.I know we eat less so we go much less, but this stuff hurts when you get backed up. . To drink MOM is so nauseating and the other stuff to take are so harsh. You get diaherrea and then you are stopped up again.
I went to Trader Joes and bought pitted prunes and some soy nuts lightly salted. I ate a few and BANG...I was able to go. I hope this will be the answer instead of taking these medicines for this problem. Do you guys have this problem Any suggestions besides medicines?
Thanks again guys have a great weekend. I will try to also. It's raining here in NY..... Lorraine
I wish I could help, but I have no answer. My PCP put me on Miralax. Nothing worked for me and I hate taking MOM all the time, too. She told me to up the fiber for diverticulitus and that may help the problem but other than carbs, I don't know what fiber I could suggest, other than broccoli, soy and romain lettuce. Sorry.

Nona, Good Morning to you.I thought I was the only one up at this hour. I will continue with the soy nuts and pitted prunes. I am so sick of medicines. I was so "FOS" FULL OF S___T I was feeling like drano going down a clogged sink. I could hardly eat. This has helped alot. Thanks for your suggestions and have a great weekend..... Lorraine

But the carbs in fiber rich food are good for you.......Try eating like the chilibeans in chili sauce......I just looked at a can and for 1/2 cup it is only 110 calories with 6 fiber...that is great! Sprinkle a little cheese on it.....try more beans!!! Also I have a package of benefiber and for one packet....you put it into drinks, it dissolves and you can't taste it.....it has 20 calories....4 carbs......and 6 fiber, 3 dietary and 3 soluble! You might wanna try some of that.....it gets spendy but if it helps, it might be worth it.......I am new to this constipation thing, have never been really constipated until now I have an aunt with diverticulitus, no fun! Hang in there hopefully you will find relief soon......Has your insurance approved the other med yet......Keep bugging them!!!! Take Care Jesi
I am usually NEVER constipated......my morning coffee works for me!!! But I too, like you, had surgery last Thursday and since then....man oh man I have been plugged up......I too feel like you and can't strain, I had an open hysterectomy. My coffee isn't cutting it this time.....My gyno says it takes awhile for the bowels to wake up fully and get back to normal, but man I feel like POOP!!!! I never thought about the prunes....I thought they would have to much sugar in them........maybe I will pick up a package today......I just want my bowels to return to normal Take Care Jesi......I have also heard that smooth move tea helps....you can get it at health food stores or big grocers!
Goodmorning...Once in awhile I get a case of the same problem. A terrible pain in my left side. Took me awhile to fingure out what was going on. I could not sit without pain...then it hit me...I am backed UP! I drink some cranapple juice and it seems to do the trick. Such a awful feeling.....

Good morning Lorraine. First, NEVER BE EMBARRASSED to talk about anything on this site. If you are experiencing something there is sure to be at least one or two other people experiencing the same. Second, I have had problems with constipation from the day of surgery. It could be that I just don't eat enough to clean out my system so to speak. Well, I now take FiberCon on a regular basis, 2 of them a day. This really seems to help ME. If this is a temporary problem for you then you might continue with the prunes until your body heals from the hernia surgery or try some FiberCon (or something similar).
I hope you are feeling better soon! It's cool and breezy but at least sunny in the City today. Have a great day.

I found out by accident that WARM sf Lemonade moves me! I had left my glass of lemonade in the car and it was very warm, but I was thirsty. It wasn't 20 minutes before it cleaned me out! It wasn't a fluke either, I've used it on purpose since then!
Hubby and I did use the dieter's tea a couple times, but holy cow! It's not time dependable and twice I was up at night just miserable.
Glad you got something to work for you! Sincerely, S K
