Hi there to all my friends here on this wonderful December Message Board. I am wondering when you guys have a chance we could post a "Food for the Day" posts. I need to get an idea of what you guys are eating. I think that I am not eating the right stuff. When I get ready to eat a meal I am filling up so fast. Your suggestions and meals that you have eaten might help me a bit. Now what did you guys eat today or yesterday? Thanks again... Lorraine

Hi Lorraine. Today I plan to have the following: B: Atkins Ready-To-Drink Strawberry Shake L: Atkins Ready-To-Drink Chocolate Shake D: 2 oz of "Just Lettuce" from Dole, 1/2 ounce of American Cheese, 1 ounce of Ham and 2 TBSP of Lite Country French Dressing all mixed up (YUMMY!!) Calories: 519; Fat: 28; Carbs: 22; Protein: 49 Yesterday I had the following: B: Atkins Ready-To-Drink Strawberry Shake L: 2 oz of "Just Lettuce" from Dole, 1/2 ounce of American Cheese, 1 ounce of Ham and 2 TBSP of Lite Country French Dressing all mixed up (YUMMY!!) D: 7 Pizza Rolls (Bad choice but it was a craving I gave into) About 120 ounces of water and all my vits Calories: 618; Fat: 33; Carbs: 43; Protein: 38 Saturday I had the following: B: 1/2 piece of sausage and 1/4 of a bagel L: Atkins Ready-To-Drink Chocolate Shake D: 1 slice of sausage thin crust pizza and the toppings off another slice of sausage pizza (small slices from a small pizza at Pizzeria Uno) Not as much water and all my vits Don't know the exact nutritional count I don't do as good on the weekend as I do during the week. During the week I will often have shrimp and chicken. Shrimp goes down really good and I just love it. I buy my shrimp from omaha steaks.com. I buy shrimp scampi and can eat about 6-7 shrimp at one sitting. Low calorie and great protein and yummy. I also buy the Perdue Original Roasted Chicken. It's very soft and goes down really easy. Every once in a while I put the shrimp or chicken in a corn tortilla (the mini ones) and mix it with cheese and salsa. That's good too. I also eat a lot of soup, healthy request tomato soup and chicken broth. Tomato soup doesn't have a lot of protein but the potassium is good. With broth soups I put a piece of american cheese in it to melt, yummy! I also have tuna with a little mayo and relish and a little lettuce and just eat it out of the bowl. That's yummy too. Just a suggestion if you are filling up too quickly on food, try not to drink at least an hour or 45 minutes before you eat. I notice when I drink a lot of water before I eat a meal, I am too full to eat. I track just about everything on fitday.com. Also, remember I am still trying to lose another 28 pounds before my plastic surgery so my calories are a little lower than someone who is maintaining. Kim 347/183/???

Hi there Kim, Thanks alot for answering me. I am snacking and I need to cut it out so I can eat a regular meal. What is "Just Lettuce" from Dole? . I do see that I need to stop thinking I can eat like before. I tried yesterday watching what I ate and it was much better for me to enjoy my dinner. I do need a bit more calories to maintain or not to lose anymore. I think old habits are there with me. I am like a cow grazing all day. It's so hard to give up those bad habits. Thanks again for you input. I will try to not snack..... Lorraine

Lorraine - My surgeon says no snacking because it leads to grazing and then to weight gain so I really try to stick to the no snack rule and 3 meals per day. I'm far from perfect and will occassionally have some popcorn especially if I go to the movies but this happens once in a blue moon, definitely not daily or weekly. I might have a chip or two sometimes but again once in a blue moon. My old habits have never gone away (ie., my pizza roll binge last night!) but I am trying really hard every day not to give in and for the most part I don't. I love how I look and feel right now and I don't want anything to get in the way of me getting to goal. Going grocery shopping is really hard! On Saturday I must have passed the Bachman Jax (cheese puffs) about 3-4 times, I stopped, stared at the bag and then said a big NO to myself and kept going. It's horrible! I do the same thing when I pass the Knorr's Creamy Pesto sauce mix! I love that stuff and it only leads me to eat pasta which I don't want to do right now! So I try really hard to pass it up. Mind games, they are really awful. Try really hard to stick to 3 meals a day and then to drink a lot of water (or whatever you like) in between the meals. The meals should be high in protein so they will fill up quicker. If you need some extra calories then add a scheduled snack in between, a healthy snack, apple, banana, veggies, etc. Have you ever had your resting metabolic rate calculated? This tells you how many calories you need to consume in order to maintain your weight with no exercise. My surgeon's office conducts this test. My RMR is 1280 calories (or something like that) so if I consume anything more than 1280 calories I will gain (if I don't exercise) and anything less I will lose. This is exactly why I keep my calories low and then add exercise to my program. This is probably why I lose approximately 1/2 pound a day on average (I've lost 15 pounds each month for the past 4 months, maybe 15.5 or 16 this month depending on what the scale says tomorrow!). Oh, the "Just Lettuce" is a pre-packaged bag of lettuce from Dole that contains only Romaine and Iceburg lettuce. I hate veggies, including carrots and cabbage in my salad and this bag of lettuce does not have any of that! I'm a terribly fussy eater! I hate that about me. Have a great day, and I hope you find something delicious to eat today. Kim 347/183/???

Hi Lorraine, I have been eating terrible lately and really have to get ahold of myself. My daughter had to cook a dessert for her 4-H cooking contests and decided on Pecan Pie squares, which also happen to be my weakness. What did I do? You got it, I ate a piece and it made me have the shakes and diarrhea. Did I stop there? No, before the weekend was over, I probably had 3-4 pieces. I haven't ever had anything like that but I wanted it so bad and it was so very good. Full of sugar and Karo and so very bad for me. Not to mention the carbs I love to snack on like Cheeze Its, popcorn, and pringles. Even though I haven't lost a pound in almost 2 months, I am still losing inches. I am now fitting into 5s, 6s, 7s in junior jeans. Today, I have got to get back on track. I am going to try to lower my carbs to a bare minimum and do no fattening or sugary foods. Usually, I don't ever eat anything with real sugar but I have noticed that I am venturing out there to try more and more things. I don't want to get back in that same slump when I was obese. I do have some motivation this week though, my birthday bash is this Friday night. My husband is a free lance disc jockey and is throwing a big party/dance for me and some other October birthday friends. He bought me a nice denim one piece jumper size Juniors 7/9 and it is very snug in the chest, upper abdomen area, though. I want to lose some inches so I don't have to suck in all night. Todays planned menu: B: Aria chocolate protein shake S: handful of roasted peanuts, unsalted unsweet tea L: Aria chocolate protein shake S: apple or plum D: salad, thermic vegetables I take all of my vitamins everyday and drink probably 60-80 oz of fluid a day but no****er. I usually drink u/s tea or crystal light. I too am eager to see what everyone else is eating. Yesterday was my 10 month anniversary. Have a good week. Staci

Staci - Congratulations on your 10-month anniversary. Mine is tomorrow! You are doing so great - I can't wait to be in the sizes you are in! That's amazing. Happy Birthday too! Your planned menu looks good - get those pecan pie squares out of your system! Kim 347/183/???

Thanks Kim! Happy Anniversary tomorrow. It's hard to believe its almost been a year since WLS! Sounds like you have been doing great also. Congratulations on your successes. I never would have thought that I would be in these sizes. It is so surreal, sometimes I just think the sizes are wrong and that I should still be in the plus section. It is all so mental, isn't it. I've thrown out the pecan pie squares and its healthy eating for me for right now. Thanks for the encouragement. Staci

Thanks Staci! It IS hard to believe that our one-year anniversary is approaching. My "goal" at one year was to be at 180 pounds. Since today I was at 183 and I still have another 2 months left it looks like I'll exceed that goal! Yeah!! You're right, it is totally mental. But look darling you ARE wearing those sizes and it's all due to the hard work you have put into this over the past 10 months so you should be very proud of yourself. Don't let those pecan pie squares (or anything else of the like) sabotage what you have worked so hard to achieve. Now, a little pecan pie square every once is a blue moon won't hurt you but you already know that. Good luck with the healthy eating. YOU CAN DO IT!

I'm not the best choice for food plans as I eat more than anyone here, about 1200 calories a day. Yesterday I had the following: B:2 scrambled eggs 1 whole wheat toast w/butter L: 4oz roast beef, 1 cup carrots S:Pack of soy nuts, about 5 oz and an apple. 60 oz of fluid. Nona

I have 2 nectar protein shakes a day that I count as 2 meals. I usually tend to have chicken breast for my dinner, but this weekend I had a piece of plain pizza on thin crust. I also had some of those wafer type cookies with peanut butter in the middle. I usually have those protein chips from Kaysnaturals too. 30 chips, 3 gms fiber and 10 gms protein. 110 calories. and I also have a tablespoon of flax in the morning and at night. I haven't lost anything in a long time. I am getting discouraged, but trying very hard to not think of it all day long. I don't think about food very much. It doesn't taste as good to me as it used to. Allison
