Plateau Breaker

Has anyone tried this? I am on it an not doing well. I am so very hungry. Tired, too. I am taking in more fat and calories on this than I do on my own, so how can one get pounds off with it? If I am this hungry, I don't think I can stay on it, because my blood sugar is going too low. Ideas? Help? Nona

Nona, I too tried it, for two days and I was so hungry and moody and grouchy and down right mean that I didn't think it was worth putting my family through. I don't know if it from no carbs or that I was hungry or what but I didn't like it at all. I got off of it and just tried to watch my intake. Scales are moving again. Good luck! Staci

Nona, I haven't tried it and if you aren't feeling well, I wouldn't stay on it. Being hungry seems like it would lead to more eating. The thing I LOVE about this surgery is that I never feel hungry like I did in the past. That is a miserable feeling. Maybe that Rules for the Pouch would work, with the water loading so many minutes before you eat. I read about it before my surgery and took it to my nutritionist, and she said it was for farther out, and I forgot about it. It was somewhere on this board... Pouch rules for dummies or something and it is supposed to work even if you have been terrible with eating. If you are interested, I will try to find it for you, so let me know. Allison

I already do it. Got the info on another support board. It does cut down on your quantities, but you get hungry sooner, at least I do. I think I am going to try this: Cut back on the protein in meat form, up the shakes, and fill up on veggies and a little fruit. Mostly veggies. I always feel better when I eat veggies. I think, deep down, I'm a vegetarian wanna be. Nona

Confused - what's the plateau breaker? I'm sure I will need it at some point.

It's three ounces of pure protein, like beef or chicken, five times a day and 45g of protein suppliment, like three shakes a day, and 64oz of non caffininated fluid for 10 days. I just couldn't do it. I got so sick yesterday, the guys here at work wanted to take me home. I finally ate a pb&j and felt better. I had veggies and salad with the 3oz of meat and did fine last night. I just can't do it. It's not enough food for my blood sugar. Same problem I had with the first two weeks after surgery. Blood sugar plummeted and had some problems. But I'm ok now. Nona

Thanks Nona. Sorry to hear that you felt horrible. My mom has blood sugar level problems as well (she had surgery in Nov 2002). This is more than I eat in a normal day so I'm not sure how this would be a plateau breaker for me although it is true if you up your calories a bit it may help with kick starting the weight loss. Who knows, it's all a learning thing for me. Hope you are feeling better.

"This is more than I eat in a normal day so I'm not sure how this would be a plateau breaker for me " Wow. I wish that's all I could eat. I eat that much meat at a meal, plus veggies and a salad. Good for you. I bet your weight is falling off left and right, if that's all you can eat in a day. Nona

Some days I have a protein shake in the morning, about 3-4 ounces of protein lunch (turkey breast, ham, egg salad, etc. (no bread)) and 3-4 ounces of dinner (usually chicken, sometimes shrimp (I can usually eat 5 ounces of shrimp for some reason). On some other days I will have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and then 3-4 ounces of dinner. Occassionally (like once a month) I have a couple of ounces of pasta for dinner instead of the meat (just have to satisfy my cravings!). [Knock wood] I am never hungry and could go all day without eating (I don't do this though) and it wouldn't bother me a bit. I drink lots of water during the day and do not snack for the most part (if I snack it's all due to head hunger and I'll have a few chips (bad) or popcorn or a piece of cheese). I also exercise a lot which I am told decreases one's appetite, not sure how accurate this is? I'm not sure if my weight is "falling off left and right" and one never loses fast enough but I have lost 151 pounds as of today (weighed in at 196!!) and am 5 days past my 9 month anniversary. I guess everyone is different, I see people who are farther out than me and eat less than I do and people who eat more and have lost a lot more weight. I think we just need to listen to our own bodies and do what's best for ourselves. Like I said earlier my mom has low blood sugar problems as well and needs to eat something every few hours - I hear this is pretty common so I'm just the odd ball here! Have a great day.
