Problems swallowing

Hi everyone, Lately, I have been having difficulty swallowing, and things getting stuck in my throat. I sometimes cannot get it down (vitamins, peanuts, anything dry) and have to resort to sticking my finger way down my throat to help it out. I had a stricture once before a couple of years ago and don't know if I have it again or not. I just don't want another surgery, especially if the first one didn't work and its back again. Has anyone else had problems with this? I so much just want to be healthy and normal and haven't felt this good in a long long time. I don't want anything to put a damper on it and of course my husband blames any little thing on the surgery. He isn't negative at all, in fact he is very proud of me and very complimentary, but any little thing, he relates it to "the surgery". BTW- My DH is throwing a birthday bash for me in October and he bought me a new outfit yesterday. It is a one piece denim jumpsuit that zips up and has a belt. Number one, I can never find anything like that because I am so tall and long legged and nothing ever is long enough and number two, I've always been much bigger up top than bottom and I couldn't fit in anything up top that was the right size in pants. Well this JUNIORS Medium (7/9) FIT and he said I had nice curves and looked so thin. I am wearing it to the party- he says he wants to show his "new woman" off. : Isn't that sweet!!!! He is my ! Have a great week everyone. Staci

I just had my 6th stricture dilation and they aren't so bad. My symptoms weren't quite like yours though. Things fo me go down and seem stuck down there. You probalby need to call your doc though. Good luck!! Alice

Six strictures, I can't imagine!!! Do they put you to sleep each time? I know it is not complicated or a lengthy procedure, it is just taking off work, going to the doctor, and all that goes with it. I promised myself unless absolutely necessary that I would not have any surgeries this year. I have had a total of 13 in my life and for the last five years, it was once or twice a year. Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep you posted. Staci

Hi Stacy. I'm sorry I can't offer any advice on the swallowing. Please call your doctor - you don't want this to lead to anything serious. Congrats on the new outfit - sounds great. You're a lucky lady to have such a supportive husband (and he's lucky to have you too!). Happy early birthday!

Hello Stacy, I don't know what it is either. It doesn't sound like what people discribe when they have a stricture. Is that what happened to you last time when you had one? I would try to ask about your symptoms on the main board, just because so many more people read there and you have a better chance of someone having had this. It sounds horrible and miserable. Funny thing about blaming things on "THE SURGERY!" Whenever I get ANY type of pain (in the general abdominal area)I am more afraid then before thinking that maybe it is related to the surgery. I will pray for you to have absolute relief from things sticking in your throat. The outfit sounds very pretty. How nice of your husband to find the perfect thing. I hope it is the happiest birthday you have ever had. Allison
