Home from surgery

Well the good news is... I should not have anymore chronic pain..... AFTE I heal from surgery. I went to the ER Monday by ambulance because I was sure I must be dying (it was the worst of the worst pain) After several hours of nonworking pain meds and a CT scan that showed nothing, i was about to be sent HOME!!!!! EXCUSE ME? no not this time. I insisted that they get my surgeons opinion before I be let go. My lipase was high which meant either pancreas or gallbladder, but they STILL WERE GONNA SEND ME HOME!!!! Well luckily my PCP was the resident in rotation and so they got her to admit me......... to the VERY room in which my husband DIED 2 years ago Of all the rooms all the chances... and they couldn't even move me out until the next day! I lay there with whatever horrible sad thoughts you can imagine running through my head until breakfast time... no sleep yet. It took them all the way until 9 o'clock that next night to get me out of that room. They did put me in a private "suite" of sorts and it was nice, but not worth what I went through emotionally the night and day before. My surgeon was almost ready to settle for pancreatitus (was what I was admitted for) and then thought HEY lets just MAYBE CHECK your gallbladder with an ultrasound.... well praise the Lord someone was thinking. So I get my ultrasound and low and behold.... I have many large gallstones. Who WOULDA KNEW???? So Wednesday morning at 7:30 I had surgery to take out my gallbladder. I guess I am ok now. I haven'y had a BM since Monday which is scary for me. I guess I will have to try some MOM. I have already had probably 10 stool softeners since Weds. and nothing. The pain seems worse than I remember having with my bypass (but I can't say I am good at remembering pain) and the pain pills are making me feel weepy and depressed. The stay in the hospital... and THAT room are more than I almost could take, but I am thankful that I made it out of that room Hopefully I will be feeling like myself again soon and with no more posts of pain to come from ME!!!! Oh and BTW in reference to the fluids and weight gain.... I gained 13 lbs of fluid in 4 days and yes it sucks and no its not gone yet... but hopefully it will be soon. Hugs to all... as always thank you for listening and caring and being here when I need someone. I didn't expect this and it is taking its toll.

What a horrible experience, Shawna. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but very glad they finally found the problem. I hate to imagine the pain you've been living with the past months. I'll say a prayer for your quick recovery, and loss of those nasty fluid pounds. (Give it a week, mine were gone by then and took a few of their friends with them.) Blessings, Deb

I am so happy that they finally found out what was wrong. I hope everything is uphill from now on. It must have been terrifying to be in that room. Not only a physical hard time but extreme mental agony as well. Thank you for letting us know how you are doing, and I will continue to pray for your recovery.

OMG, I could not imagine the mental stress you must have went through. How completely depressing. I am so sorry you had to go through that. On a brighter note...at least your all fixed up!! I am so glad they found the problem and were able to fix it for you. Hopefully you'll be feeling better soon, both physically and emotionally. You get lots of rest, drink lots of water, and take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon {{{hugs}}} Di~

You poor kid! I remember my gall bladder attacks. They can mask themselves from anything like menstral cramps to a heart attack. When one would hit me, it dropped me to my knees. Just be careful what you eat for the next couple of weeks. No spices or high oils. Even citrus can upset your tummy. I also had a severe problem with red meat for a month. Just a heads up, just in case. Nona

Hi Sweety, Glad that you had your problem resolved. Nothing worse than being sent home when YOU know something is wrong!!! I hope that you feel better soon. I wish you all the best for a short and uneventful recovery! You have been through enough! Now just get better! Your water weight will go away, always to be expected after a surgery. Give it a few weeks so you can heal properly. Take care! Tracy
