Hi Everyone, Has anyone had a reoccurance of Acid Reflux, after surgery? I had it before my sugery RNY-LAP on 12/16/03 and it disappeared after my surgery. I have all this burning across my chest and down my arms. It's a fire that gets so hot it feels like ice. Geessszzzzz I was hospitalized two years ago (Cardiac floor) and every test imaginable turned out great and was released from the hospital diagnosed with Acid Reflux. Seven months after my RNY-LAP it's starting to rear it's ugly head again. How is this possible? Anyone else experiencing the same? If so, what are you doing for it? Thanking you in advance for your input. (Smiling) SnoJo RNY - 12/16/03 242/162/-80 lbs. Goal 119

SnoJo, I would call my surgeon on this one. My understanding is that there isn't that much acid in the pouch to begin with, that most of the acid comes into the intestine from the lower part of the stomach at the Y. But, I could be totally wrong. I'll say a prayer for you, and hope that this is a short-term, freaky thing that goes away quickly. If it doesn't, call the doc! Deb

Hello, This was discussed by my surgeon at our last support group. It seems he has found that not all pouches only have a little acid after surgery. Some still produce large amounts. The treatment is the same as before. I would call your surgeon and get a script for an acid reducer because we are much more likely to get an ulcer with our tiny pouches having the acid hang around. Hope you feel better soon. Shawna

My acid reflux has been bothering me also. I have my doctor's appointment coming up, so I am going to talk to him about it at that time. It bothers me that it is back too.

I still get it but maybe only 1 time a week IF I over do it. (too much food in pouch) however I find that i can treat it with over the counter pepcid type meds instead of the prescription Prevacid it used to require. I have also heard that some folks have to continue using meds after surgery.
