dumping
Boy, we want to read the labels of everything, don't we? I bought some fat free Half and Half and used it yesterday in some cooking. Major dump. Read the label and guess what? Second ingredient is sugar. Ouch. But I did find something that helped speed the process so I didn't suffer for hours. I drank a huge glass of water as soon as the symptoms began. It pushed the food out of the pouch and through the intestine faster, so I was only suffering for about 90 minutes instead of several hours. Out the milk went. Joe won't use it, so I dumped it. Man oh man. I made some clam chowder with it. Never again. I will stick with the red version recipie I have. It's not as good, but at least I don't get sick.

Have you considered using heavy cream? There shouldn't be anything in there except for lactose...Is it possible you are lactose intolerant instead of reacting to the sugar in the 1/2 and 1/2?
My nutritionist recommended Lactaid before dairy products. I don't dump but the milk doesn't agree with me anymore.
You could also use regular or skim milk and buy a thickener from the health food store that is considered Low Carb--- I can't remember what it is called.
I know that heavy cream is outrageously high in fat content but how much are you going to eat? You can make your own 1/2 and 1/2 using some heavy cream and skim milk to get the thickness.
I drink skimmed milk and eat yogurt without any problems, but even the smallest amount of sugar can bother me and I used 3/4 a can full. I can't tolerate much fat, either, but I will look for a low carb thickener. I use arrowroot for Chinese cooking as that is nearly carb free and thickens like corn starch. It's expensive, but a little goes a long way. Thanks for the idea.
