More Surgery
Well, I saw my ortho again today, and I'll be having a rod put in my left humerus. Besides all the surgery on the arm, I'll also be having a bone graft taken from my left hip, all told about 6 hours of surgery to put this arm back together.
I won't find out when until next week, after they get everything through the insurance company. Bad time to have a holiday weekend, I'll tell you that. In the meantime, I'm in a new splint, which is giving me better support, but the pain is still pretty constant. I'm still hoping to go to the OH regional event in St. Louis next weekend. If anyone else is there, I'll be the one in the sling. Otherwise, I'm pretty much housebound for the duration.
One thing that is really bothering me is that I am not allowed to exercise AT ALL until a few weeks after surgery. No walking (except necessary, of course), nothing. I've been so enjoying my exercise, this is very upsetting. I just hope I don't start drowning my sorrows in food and gaining weight. Pray for me, you all!
I hope you all have a fun and safe holiday,
Deb
HI there Deb, I am praying for you girl. You will be fine. I am going back to Curves on the 7th of this month. I had to take one month off. The Dr. seem to think I need a knee replacement after 3 knee arthroscopes. I say it has to wait. My body has been through enough of surgery for now I thought I would gain weight not excersising but I did just fine. I did manage to lose a few pounds. You have come too far and yes we tend to drown our sorrows in food. Just hold that pretty head of yours up. to your recent weight loss. You have come to far girl..... Have a great weekend ...... and prayers for you.......Lorraine
Oh, NO!! I am so sorry to hear more surgery. You must be just about chewing nails. You won't do the food thing. You've come too far. Water load if you get hungry. It does work!! Kool aid, crystle lite, whatever. Fill up on fluids. You will be fine. I know it's hard ,but maybe you could try a type of meditation while you can't exercise? you know, center your thoughts type of thing? Focus on getting better, imagine yourself on your beloved horses, swimming, whatever you like to do. The main thing is to relax and focus on healing. Some swear by it to heal faster. As they say in the Bronx, it couldn't hoit.

Sorry to hear the bad news! Could you at least work out the arm and leg that aren't being operated on? At least you would feel like you are doing something!
Take a light weight and do some reps?! Leg lift? stomach crunches (without moving too much?). You could lie on your back and lift the good leg up towards your abdomen and do those nasty "holds" and feel the tummy burn!
May not be aerobic but it does help build muscles and they burn calories!
I know you will figure something out!
Good luck with the surgery...I know that must really suck.
In the meantime--while you are convalescing you could plan your next big vacation!
Me--- I am working on South Africa! Wanna come?! Next May for 2 weeks!
