Q.O.D. 6/28
My stylist urges me to color, as often as every four weeks. She said it makes the hair look thicker. But to go lighter, as that disguises the thinness as well as makes one look younger. I needed both.
Anyway, I color mine a lighter shade of red, and it looks fine. I also keep it short and tapered. That also hides how thin it is.
Nona
I can only tell by my pony tail how thin my hair has gotten
otherwise I don't think it appears any differently but I have NEVER had this skinny of a pony tail in my entire life.
and I keep losing tons of hair everyday since FEBRUARY...how I am not bald is beyond me!
I was never told not to do anything with my hair.
I quit coloring my hair b/c of the $$$$. I love being a dark auburn/red color but it needs re-doing every 4 weeks and that runs me $100. UH NUH! Especially the fact that I will be UNEMPLOYED in 1 month!!!!
cheap shampoo/conditioner for me for the next year.
I have been coloring my hair every 6 weeks or so and don't think it has made any difference in the hair loss department. Mine started at 4 months post-op and is slowly decreasing, but still coming out. I am the only one who can tell
Shannon, heres an idea for you. I am a stay-home-mom and can not justify spending $$$$ on a color either (here it is also about $100-125 for a cut and color) so I started buying Herbal Essence color kits at Wal-Mart. They are around $9 and look as good as the salon. I have tried lots of brands, but these are the best results I have ever gotten. Just a thought since you are on a budget too
Have a Great day, Everyone!!!! Kimberly
the reason I asked is... Someone told me through a stylist that I should not. And I have been coloring my hair since 6th grade... I am more back to my natural color then ever before but I want highlights and I colored it after I had surgery about April and now with the hair loss.. It orries me But Damn I want those highlights now that its summer...
I got my hair cut pretty short at about 2 months post op- layers. I had hair loss, but have always had very thin hair which made it worse. I was doing good and colored it at home and it dried it out pretty bad. Felt like straw to me. Could have been the brand I used, not sure. I just got a trim and that really helped it out alot. I am using Vitatress shampoo and taking biotin. I noticed last week, lots and lots of new hair and I could have just done a happy dance!! So, I am going to hold off on coloring again for a long time and get it professionally done next time. Probably just all depends. I'll live with those little grey hairs. At least the new ones aren't grey!
Take care,
Kathy
Hello,
I studied cosmetology for 2.5 years. Also, I color my hair whenever it needs it! I don't seem to lose any more than just with a normal shampoo. It does not make any extra fall out. I have probably colored my hair 4 times since surgery. Go ahead, color away! It's good for the self esteem! Something new! Tracy
