Good Morning, I have completed my six month post-op on 06/16/04 and have experienced hair loss. I started taking the "Essential Fatty Acids" vitamin in my fifth month and it has helped. BUT !! When does the hair loss stop or at least new hair grow in or hair thicken, does anyone know? My 6 month Dr. appointment was excellent. All blood work was within normal range and my 6 month results are: 242/168/-74. Thanks for your input. (Smiling) SnoJo

Yep. I've been taking ALL KINDS of potential hair-retaining potions: EFA's, flaxseed, biotin, special "hair" vitamins, extra protein, etc. for MONTHS, and I've STILL lost enough hair to fill a pillow! I simply cannot believe I have any hair LEFT. It has come out in fist-sized balls EVERY SINGLE DAY since my third month. (I'm also at my 6-month mark.) I guess I'm very fortunate I had a lot of hair to begin with. My poor, blonde sister practically went bald. Good news is, at 6 months, it seems to have peaked out and I'm noticing both a serious slowdown in loss, and regrowth around my hairline, where I had been truly bald. It slowed down as suddenly as it started - all in the space of a week. So I guess the worst is over. I've been told it peaks between 6 and 9 months postop, so I'm right on schedule. I'll bet you see a slowdown soon, too Snojo!! Good luck to you, and WAY TO GO on the 74 and the GREAT checkup!! Donna

First of All, Congratulations on your 6 month check-up! It sounds like you are doing terrific!! I woke up one morning and I thought I would go bald for sure. I took a shower and fists full of hair would fall out every single day... the worst time of the day would be when I washing it. I was told not to wash my hair everyday... I have oily hair so that is not an option. At about 6 months the loss started to slow down. Seriously... instead of 60 or 70 hairs every morning....I lose about 20 or so. I went to go get my hair cut and the lady pointed out all the "new recruits" growing in! Finally! I had a ton of hair to start off with but I can definitely tell that I have lost a lot too... it is nowhere near as thick as it used to be. Its hot here in Texas so... that isn't too bad! Don't worry, it will stop and you'll grow new healthier hair soon! ~Rachel

I am 6 months out as well and boy do I know what you mean. All of a sudden I noticed a ton of hair coming out. I take extra Biotin daily and try not to put to much product in my hair when styling so not to make it hard to wash or stlye.....Hang tough I hear it gets better!!!

I started the hair loss (balls of it) at about 4 1/2 months. I am now 6 1/2 months post op and I've noticed my hair loss is minimal now. I have a lot of new "fuzzies" coming in. I did not cut my hair as many do. I started out with really thick hair so even though I lost a lot I didn't want to draw attention to it by drastically changing my hair style. I haven't taken anything "extra" for the hairloss -- just the vitamins and B-12 injections once a month. luvitsunnyv
