OT - Adult ear infection, HELP PLEASE!

I know this is not WLS related but I really need some help please. I have a friend who has a pretty bad ear infection. She ended up at the ER last night because of it and now has some meds for it but, now she has a small amount of blood coming out. I told her to call her Dr. and see what he said but I want to know if ya'll know about this or what you know. I told her they may tell her to go back to the hospital, which she doesn't want to do and I don't blame her but I feel blood coming out of her ear isn't good. Any insight? Also told her to try a warm compress on her neck and face cause it's making the whole side of her face hurt. She has an pain killer but it's drops that she puts in the ear and it's not working. She is in some severe pain. Thank you!

Hello Chelle, I would tell your friend to see a doctor SOON! I have had many adult ear infections. To where the whole side of my head swelled up and you feel like you are going to DIE from the pain! I have had to have wicks put into my ears because they swelled shut and the meds could not get in, I have had to have antibiotic shots the whole nine yards, but I have never had blood come out of my ears no matter how bad they got, it can't be good! She may have a ruptured ear drum! Hope this helps! What I learned from the infections...never use generic Q-tips or ear swabs....they are not sterile, only use Q-Tip brand! Knock wood, I don't get them anymore! Tracy
