Why has it stopped?
Wow, I am so glad to read that I am not alone. I have lost 61 pounds since surgery, and 20 pounds immediately before (bringing my total at 81 pounds since September). Anyhow, Since April 24, I've only lost 1 pound. I know I am eating and exercising the way I should. In fact, I've even upped the exercise. I feel slimmer, and people are telling me I look slimmer. But the scale isn't budging.
I printed out two quotes from obesityhelp.com members that help me to keep focused and consistent during times of discouragement. They are:
There are many paths to your goal but you will never reach it unless you consistently put one foot in front of the other.
We do not plan to fail... we fail to plan.
With these thoughts in mind, I try to aim for consistency in my journey. I can't control how quickly my body will respond to my efforts. So I choose to focus on my actions. If I sow and sow and sow, I have faith that I will eventually reap.
Seems to have gone the other way right now. My weigh in this morning showed a gain of three pounds.
I don 't know what I've done wrong, but I'm going to watch every bite for a while. I just didn' think I was overeating, but I guess I am. So it's off all carbs and just meats and veggies for a while. Going to miss the Triscuit's, but I think that it's a necessity, at least for a while.
Hi Nona,
I had my surgery on 12/16/03 and have lost 68 pounds. I have a few suggestions for you. My surgeon told me that our bodies will plateau for weeks at a time and then kick into losing weight again, so far he has been right. He also said, when we are on a plateau we are losing inches. I have lost 11 inches off my hips and 7 inches off my waist. I not only weight myself every day, I measure myself when I'm on a plateau. As for weight gain, my surgeon said; we have a three pound swing. We can either go up 3 lbs or down 3 lbs. Anything over 3 lbs is gaining fat. We are not to worry as long as we are in the 3 lb. swing. That is normal. I hope this information helps you, it certainly has done wonders to keep me settled down when I'm on a plateau. Keep up the good work and Congrats on your weight loss. (Smiling) SnoJo
I didn't know about the three pound swing. That does make sense. And it makes me feel a whole lot better. Thank you so much. That made my day. And, as a side point, there is a picnic at Nay Aug park, Scranton PA today at noon for folks who have had this surgery. It is a chance for all to meet, talk and have our families have support, too. Bring a lunch to share, drink and clean up. We're meeting at the parking lot near the museum, at noon, for any who want to come. Be sure to wear walking shoes and dress casual. It won't be raining, but it will be cool. Thanks again for the reply and the uplifting info.
