Really don't like this option...
I saw the orthopeadist this morning for my knee that has been bothering me the past couple of months. I'll need an MRI to confirm, but it appears that I don't have an ACL in my left knee. I did injur it about 20 years ago skiing, but wouldn't you think I would have noticed not having an ACL? Anyway, compensating for not having one, and the increase in exercise the past six months, has led to developing arthritis in this joint, to the point where there are times when I can barely walk. Fortunately this hasn't happened while exercising, but when I sit for a couple of hours (like at work) and then try to get up and walk.
I'm sure that you all can understand my total lack of desire for more surgery at this point, but it looks like I'm going to have to get this fixed. The last thing I can afford to do right now is stop exercising because of arthritis. But then I'm looking at a six month rehab. This stinks.
Please tell me that it's all a big mistake!

Hi Deb,
I also hurt my knees well over 20 years ago- fell on a cement step landing on both knees. At that time the doctor told me I would need surgery within 10 years. Never had it but I am very careful of my knees. Recently with all my extra exercise, my right knee started acting up, much like yours is doing. I ended up getting a cortisone shot. It was also arthritis & the cortisone helped it settle down.
I don't know what an ACL is so don't know if a cortisone shot would help. I do know that the orthopedist said my cartilege was pretty thin but there & intact.
Hope all turns out OK for you. I also would hate to be laid up again.

Deb,
I have also had a knee injury and have a congenitally "loose" ACL which gives me fits. It just doesn't sound right for you not to have one at all. I would definitely reccommend a second opinion before you go under the knife again. This is a major joint and my mother regrets having that surgery years ago. Just something to think about.
