Constipated at 4 months?
Hello all,
I posted about this in another thread, but I thought that I would try to post a new thread for a bigger response. It seems that the others who posed on the other thread were all having at least SOME constipation problems at 4 months. It is so weird how this stuff that happens to us is so predictable! It seems nearly all of us get the same things at the same time!
Here are some questions, we'll see how widespread this is...
Have you been constipated?
How long have you been having this?
Does it slow up your weight loss?
Do you feel as if your bowels have just stopped working?
Did your doctor recommend anything for this?
What are you taking and how often?
Just for kicks... Do you lose weight after you FIX this problem?
MY ANSWERS:
Have you been constipated? Yes
How long have you been having this? About two or three weeks now
Does it slow up your weight loss? YES!!! Completely stops!
Do you feel as if your bowels have just stopped working? Sometimes it feels as if the food just sits there, does not move at all until I take something. Bowels feel as if they have just given up!
Did your doctor recommend anything for this? MOM (Milk of magnesia)
What are you taking and how often? So far about once a week, but will "prolly" have to start taking it more often. I do worry about taking this and whether or not I am dyhydrating myself and not absorbing what I eat while it is in my system. I'll take one dose at night, then if I don't feel FIXED, I'll take another teaspoon or two, not another full dose. Does the trick!
Just for kicks... Do you lose weight after you FIX this problem?
The best I have done so far is over 2 pounds in one night after taking MOM. lol YIKES!! You know what I'm full of! Tracy
Hi Tracy, I shared on the other thread but I'll share again!
Have you been constipated? Yes, yes, yes
How long have you been having this? I was going really well until about 2-3 weeks ago, then it was every 3-4 days.
Does it slow up your weight loss? ABSOLUTELY, if you don't have bowel movements where would the weight go?
Do you feel as if your bowels have just stopped working? A couple of times I have felt like I ate too much, like everything was just all "backed up".
Did your doctor recommend anything for this? My regular doctor-MOM but only to get it started again then switch to fibre therapy. My surgeons office told me I could take stool softeners because they work with your natural body functions.
What are you taking and how often? So now I take a stool softener a day and so far it has been great! I go every day (so far). Who would ever have thunk it? We're getting excited over our bowels moving! lol
Just for kicks... Do you lose weight after you FIX this problem? I have lost two pounds since Friday (that's when I started)! Yahooooo!!

1 more to go til that 70 mark
You know what keep me regular??? My morning coffee.....I cannot go until I have my two cups.....and if I miss it or I am at my moms where she has decaf.....then I am plugged up and miserable......Have you tried adding benefiber to your foods or drinks???? It helps a lot of people stay regular.....Also my surgeon reccomends colace once a day if needed (stool softner) Constipation sure makes a person feel like crap.....and make sure when you do your MOM that you drink a full glass of water right afterwards or it doesn't work!!! Good luck! Jesi
Have you been constipated? YES
How long have you been having this? since 2nd month out
Does it slow up your weight loss? don't know...maybe yes and NO? cause I could not go for 4-7 days but the scale still drop even though nothing going in was going out...makes NO sense but then it has to WEIGH something!
Do you feel as if your bowels have just stopped working? basically since I had diarrhea IBS prior to surgery I would go all the time...
Did your doctor recommend anything for this? ROUGHAGE! Fruit, salad, cereal (with fiber)....
What are you taking and how often? IF I go too long I take MOM but it doesn't seem to work that well...just makes everything runny. ewww gross I know. and even then I don't feel like as much goes out as I put in.
Have added Seven in the Morning Ka****o my morning yoghurt, eating more salad, was already eating lots of beans in my chili when it was cold.
NOT sure if it is working or not since I have had a few STRESS related IBS attacks this past week... b/c of SCHOOL. Fortunately that will be over May 8th. Then I have to wait for the grades...more STRESS.
Just for kicks... Do you lose weight after you FIX this problem? Has only be 2 weeks and things haven't been normal so I can't tell. But I haven't gone more than a few days which is better than it was.
DR said everything is trying to get figured out in our digestive tract and it takes a while. She had another IBS patient with the same problems as myself. Heck when I went on XENICAL which makes you have even worse diarrhea I ended up with CONSTIPATION....go figure. I have the most screwed up intestinal tract I know next to folks with Crohn's and Gout and diverticulitis etc....
