How are you sleeping lately?

Hello fellow Decemberites, I am curious to know if it is me or a 4 month thing. Has anyones sleep changed recently? I am not getting a very deep sleep as much as I was (never did before surgery). Toss and Turn all night. I seem to WANT to sleep more, naps are a requirement not a luxury (well, they are that too). A couple of times I have awoken with a sore throat and am wondering if my snoring is coming back?! UGH! Thought I got rid of that. Maybe I am just mouth breathing. But again, I wonder it it is me or a 4 month thing. We all seem to experience the same things at the same time, so I thought I would ask. Also, I wonder if my pillow is wring for me now and maybe that is causing it. Since my body has changed it seems that my pillow is no longer right for me. Need to go pillow shopping! Tracy

Could you have allergies...it is that time of year where everything is blooming...of course down in SUNNY WARM FL that may have happened months ago but here in Pittsburgh it is just now ramping up. I notice when my allergies get worse that I tend to breathe thru my mouth and end up with the sore throat in the mornings. My only problem with sleep has been school stress related. In fact my IBS kicked in for the first time in 3 months Wednesday am. NOT fun at 3am. Try taking a decongestant (sudafed) before bed and see if that helps? I had to this weekend at my in laws since their bradford pear trees were in full bloom and they KILL ME! Not to mention the Cherry Blossoms in downtown DC. Gotta love that pollen.

Hi Tracy, I don't have a sore throat but joint aches instead. Weird huh? My hips and even my arms are sore. It's not every night, just occassionally. Go figure. Jill

Oh, yes, I've had a variety of sleep-depriving conditions lately. Hips and back cause a lot of tossing and turning....... Ungodly leg cramps wake me up and keep me up for hours........... 2 A.M. bathroom visit (no matter how early I quit drinking water) Just plain tossing or turning, even at my very tiredest or sleepiest. I was taking potassium/magnesium for the cramps, which was working, but when I was in the hospital last week, I told my surgeon about it and he hit the roof! Apparently, potassium supplements are REALLY bad for our stomachs, he said I could have killed myself. So now - no more potassium , and here come the horrible leg cramps, (I'm talkin' ALL OVER - even the muscles inside of my thigh! OMG does that HURT!) But yeah, I noticed a distinct change in my sleep about 3 - 4 weeks ago. What's up with that? Donna

maybe we are releasing all of these built up hormones that have been stored in our fat cells???? I know that my PA at the surgeon's office said that when you gain weight you tend to have a lot more estrogen in your system and it is what causes those skin tags/growths on your skin.... maybe there is some sort of reverse process involved???

I have also noticed that I am not sleeping as good. If I sleep on my side, my shoulders and arms hurt. I try to sleep on my back. I also was wondering about getting a different pillow. I am very stiff in the mornings and have a hard time putting on my socks. Brenda

Hi Tracy- I am having problems falling asleep. I go to the YMCA and work out from 7:45-9:00, sometimes longer. I get home around 9:30, in bed by 10-10:30 and I just lay there looking at the ceiling, then the wall. Not sure how bad it was for me, but the last 2 nights I've taken one Tylenol PM. I have a hard time getting comfy and my legs just hurt. I thought maybe it was from working out, but I have to be up in the morning by 4:45am and cannot lay there for hours and still get up on time. So, looks like many of us are having similar problems. I did see a post once that just as our body ached as we gained weight, as we lose, our joints, bones, and muscles need to adjust as we get smaller. Reverse growing pains??? Take Care Kathy

Hi Kathy, It sounds to me like you are working out too close to your bedtime. I understand that sometimes we have to work that into our schedule due to work, etc. But if there is any way that you can move your workout to earlier in the day or even morning, I think you will find that you sleep better. Your body is still supercharged and revved up from your workout and just not ready to sleep only a couple of hours after a workout. I hope this helps. Thanks for posting, Tracy
