Questions for Tracy
Hi Tracy, I read your bio and your new pics look great . Please share the new and improved diet you are on (the one you are losing lbs fast). What was the deal with the IVC you had for over 4 months ? What was it and why did you have it? I never had anything like that, only the normal IV for surgery.
Brenda
Hello Brenda,
I have been shopping all day, sorry I didnt get to your questions earlier. Thank you for the compliment! The IVC Filter is a filter placed into your inferior vena cava (IVC), a vein located in your abdomen kinna near your kidney. It drains your legs. Being that blood clots generally begin in the legs during/after surgery or being on your back for a long time the filter is place to catch them and stop them from traveling to your lungs causing pulmonary embolism. My doctor recommended the filter for me because most of his patients that had blood clot problems had a BMI of over 50, since mine was in that range (almost to barely 50) he suggested that I have one to prevent clots during my recouperation from surgery. Generally most do not have any problems with these filters. You are not even supposed to know that it is there. But I guess that I am extra nervy and the filter casued me pain from the day I got it until I had it taken out. Sometimes very severe pain. If you know anyone that is getting one, please make sure that they get a retreivable filter. I'd hate to think where I would be had they put in the non-retreivable filter as they were supposed to. This putting filters into young patients (for gastric bypass) is new, they were usually used on elderly bed ridden or sedentary seniors so they are running into complications (like my pain) that was not supposed to exist. WOW that was a long explanation!
I had the normal IV's for surgery too. As for the diet...My doctor basically wanted me eating nothing but protein, meat! The new diet just is basically adding some veggies, fruits and some carbs (very little). Instead of having nothing but a 2oz piece of meat on my plate, I also will have some veggies like broccoli, squash, green beans, carrots, aasparagus, really whatever. I now allow myself a slice of bread to make a 1/2 sandwich out of the chicken that I used to just eat alone (boring) A little miracle whip, relish, celery, onion and make a salad instead of plain. I try to snack on protein, generally beef jerky. My diet isn't a wonderful miracle. I still do not allow myself a lot of things like pasta, very little bready things, rice, potatoes etc. but I now feel like it is not so boring and I am not SO deprived as I was.
When I started my new diet, I was lacking any energy, most days I felt terrible and I never wanted to do anything. Not only did I feel bad but the weight loss just about stopped! My second month on my doctors diet, I only lost 5 pounds! I just did not consider that acceptable on my second month after surgery and knew something had to change. I was watching the message boards and found a woman who gave me her doctors diet that was practically limitless compared to what I was being allowed before. I started this and almost immediately started feeling better and my weight loss went to 10 pounds per month ever since. I log into fitday.com everyday and log in everything I eat, I keep it around 600 calories per day fat under 20-30 grams, Carbs under 30-40 and protein above 60. I can't really call it a diet, it is just allowing me to be more normal and not expecting myself to live off of nothing but meat. I allow myself more thant the three only meals per day my doctor had me on, I was never allowed to snack. It was boring and not healthy for me as my body was telling me. Just a more healthy variance of foods, thats all I did really. I have an occasional little cheat too and when I do, I don't beat myself up about it as my doctor did. I just move on and continue with the diet after that. Even when I cheat I rarely go above 700 calories. Cheating to me, is my carbs going a little high on one particular day. My weightloss is still really slow compared to others, but I can live with 10 pounds per month! I couldn't with 5 pounds per month!
Sorry so long.. Tracy
