OK, sending out another query to my intrepid co-boardies: I just found out I was not supposed to be taking my iron supplement with my multivitamin! So that makes me wonder, what ELSE am I missing? What have you all been told about your supplements? Donna

ok this is my "schedule" morning multivitamin and actigall before my B12 shot I took my b 12 mid morning after lunch I take my zinc lozenge if I feel like it late afternoon I take my IRON with Vitamin C then at night I take my 2nd flintstone multi and another actigall You should take your calcium in split does with your multivitamin. Since I haven't decided if all of this research is hooey or not...I have been using my Alkamints (calcium carbonate) chewables at night (2 of them) and I figure my body has to absorb SOME of the other calcium I get from dairy products even if it isn't all of it... Supposedly if you do the chewable calcium carbonate with food in your pouch it has a better chance to get absorbed. I bought calcium citrate but it is frickin expensive and I hate swallowing HORSE PILLS! And you need like 4 /day..... NO thank you! I will used my chewable carbonate until my test results come back saying I have a problem. Someone posted on the boards somewhere the other day that you don't absorb nutrion from your food...which I would have to beg to differ otherwise we wouldn't be getting any protein. We may not get 100% of what we put in our bodies but I would assume that means the SAME thing for our supplements/vitamins.

hmmmmm...This is just another great example of every surgeon being different with their protocols......Here is my schedule given to me by surgeon: AM 2 calcium citate with a B12 sublinqual NOON Multivitamin with Iron and an extra iron/vitamin C pill Supper 2 calcium citrates Bed-3 actigalls I have a picky tummy and it doesn't like pills unless there is food in there...I take my pills like 5-10 minutes before I eat with a little sipof water......works great and I no longer get sick from my pills!!! Good Luck ~Jesi

My doc told me to take two TUMS for the calcium and two flinstones chewables with iron. That is all I take. All my lab work has been beautiful.

That is exactly what my doctor recommends too. 2 Tums with calcium and 2 Chewable vitamins with IRON and Vitamin B 12 liquid (once a week). Very strange how all these doctors are different. But my blood work has been coming back good. Soooo I guess that what I'm taking is sufficient. Jill

Hello, The only restriction that I have heard is DO NOT TAKE CALCIUM AND IRON AT THE SAME TIME ALLOW 4 HOURS IN BETWEEN. I think it interferes with the absorbtion. Tracy

Check vitalady.com. Michelle Curran is a long-term post-op and she has a lot of info on her site regarding vitamins. I think she also says to take calcium citrate, not carbonate because we don't absorb it. Lisa G
