My surgeon said no carbonated drinks because it will expand in your pouch. Has anyone tried drinking carbonated beverages and if so, what kind? Did it make you uncomfortable?

That is the one rule I have actually followed I was told that you could have them if you let them sit for a while first so they are a little flat, but where is the fun in that? Jackie- 16 weeks soda free

I haven't really missed soda! I have found plenty of water substitutes made with Splenda that are tasty like Propel and Fruit2O. I found another drink called Sparkling Ice. I didn't know it was lightly carbonated, though, so I let my kids and hubby drink it. They have neat flavors like blackberry and peach. I did let one get flat and drink it because the flavor is so good! Lisa G

I drink one caffeie free diet pepsi a day. It doesn't seem to bother me - I also love Italian sodas with sugar free syrup. I've read so much conflicting info about this, so I finally decided to try it for myself and if I experienced any problems I'd know that was something I couldn't handle. I don't drink caffeinated products - I tried a glass of regular diet pepsi once - but the caffeine made me feel like a jittery mess. I am careful not to drink with meals though.

I have to admit... I am drinking a diet coke now from Sonic. I used to get up with a diet coke and go to bed drinking a diet coke. (before surgery). Now, I usually have 1 or 2 a day. I know its a No NO but it has always tasted good to me after surgery and went down well. I have had no problems at all. I dont think its stretched out my pouch at all. Kim, -79

I am carbonated free for over 17 weeks now! I cut carbonation and caffeine out when I found out I was having surgery. I don't miss it and will probably never go back to it. I have to say that I'm a "follow doctor's instructions" type of girl. So if they say don't do it, then I don't... Jill

I had a couple of sips of my sons Sprite once... and I mean once! I wasn't thinking and he offered it and I took a couple of sips. It was okay but then it hit my tummy and I was sort of bloated the rest of the day. I can't imagine what I would have felt like if I drank entire soda. ~Rachel

I was a diet coke addict but quit cold turkey a good two months before surgery....and I honestly don't miss them AT ALL! I'm so used to drinking other liquids now that I just don't want soda/ pop. That is one habit I do NOT want to return to! Jenni
