Slow loss :-(
I had surgery Dec 29th. I was down officially 20 lbs with my surgeons office at the 1 month check in and got fussed at because she said her avg was 30lbs. I was thrilled with 20 lbs in 1 month...and I had a solid 10 days where I didn't lose a SINGLE pound. I started at 249 (5' 3.5").
I weighed in the day of my HEAVY period that was 3 weeks late. AT home I am down a little over 27 lbs (now it is 5 weeks since surgery).
I am doing my darnedest to get in my protein and water....and vitamins! YECK! I am increasing my exercise.
I just got this back from Surgeon's physician's Assistant regarding weight loss...apparently she doesn't have the same attitude for the monthly weight loss as her surgeon.
"We do not give recommendations for weight loss. Everyone loses
differently. You can expect to lose between 8-12 pounds per month, but it
may be more, it may be less. We don't focus on the number of pounds, unless
there is troublesome behavior.
To succeed after gastric bypass, you need to do four basic things 1.
Drink 64 oz. noncaffenated, noncarbonated beverages
per day
2. Eat 64 grams of protein per day
3. Take the five vitamin supplements as prescribed
4. Exercise to your potential 30 minutes 3x/week
minimum
For some people it's very simple and for others very difficult. I hope this
helps."
Shannon ---GOOD luck....I have stopped losing again for almost a week now.
Hello Lisa,
I think there are a lot of us "lightweights" out there that expected a much faster loss than we are getting. I like to think of it this way, what other diet in my entire life was I able to lose 36 pounds in about 7 weeks? You are doing great, you cannot judge your loss by anyone elses. You are unique and your body will lose at it's own pace. You will plateau and that is normal too! So expect it and KNOW that it will end and then the scale will pick up again. It may take a little while, but we will all get there as long as we are following our diets and getting enough water and exercise, the weight will go. Try not to let yourself get upset over it. ( I got upset too) but today I am just taking one day at a time, doing what I know is right and looking forward to the day when I am at a weight I am happy with. It will come for me, and it will come for you! Keep up the good work! Tracy
Hello,
My surgery was 12/15/03 and I have lost 36 pounds. I started out at 235. I was told it would be slower than others but it feels too slow. I have not lost but 1 pound in the last 3 weeks. My surgeon says not to worry, it will come off. He doesn't want me to weigh at home, just at his office, but that is killing me. I try to only weigh once a week. I can tell you that I am very discouraged though. I'm so sorry you feel the same way.
Jodie
Lisa,
I to had surgery on December 1 2003. Twelve days out I had lost 22 pounds. I was happy to see the loss. Twenty-nine days out I had lost a total of 24 pounds. At first I thought this doesn't seem right. But I had no choice but to accept the fact that 24# was it. I could not explain it but I had hope for a thirty pound lost by the end of the month. My surgeon's office is about an hour from me and his scales are the only ones I am allowed to weigh on at this time. I am forced to concentrate on drinking the water, exercising, and making good food choices. I hired a certified personal trainer to get me through and give me something to learn [teach me how to work my body safely and ensure a good weight loss] so that I keep myself entertained.
Hay !!!!hold on there I'm a lightweight also,(starting at 247) do not , DO NOT be depressed we didn't get that way over night and it will not go away over night.I'm only down -40 my surgery date was 12/01/2003, so yes I feel you, I want it to go away faster also but if you lose slow , it will stay off and you don't have to worry about getting sick , Hang in there
