I am 7 weeks today. Food makes me sick. There isn't much I can have that doesn't either hurt going down or I throw up. I eat yogurt and cottage cheese alot. Life has to get better than this. The other side of it is that I am not losing much weight. I am down 25 lbs. I have been here for 2 weeks now. I look at others weight loss and I am nowhere near them. Input desired.

Oh..I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I will be 7wks this monday. i had my open RNY on Dec 15th. I am relying on protein shakes a little too much, I think. I haven't dumped or vomited at all, but I am being very cautious. I can eat very tender, soft meat, very small amounts. I chew like crazy. One thing I have noticed...if I drink too soon before I eat or too soon after, I get a little queezy...not enough to throw up, but I feel terrible. I have felt the same way about the weight loss. I think it depends on how much you have to lose. If you have a tremendous amount to lose...you will lose more initially. Are you getting in your protein? I am drinking two protein shakes a day, sometimes three, and I try to have a semi-normal meal with meat for my dinner meal. I was told to get in 80-100gms of protein a day...at least 64 oz of water and not to worry about the rest. If you have vomiting...that's a sign to back off..go back on liquids, pureed to rest your pouch. I hope this helps a little. Hope to hear from you. Jeanie

I am 7 weeks post-op myself and I have good days and bad days with food. I was put on a low fat diet 3 weeks ago. I eat chicken, turkey and some pork. everything is baked , grilled or boiled.I was told to eat at least 60-70 grams of protien a day but I cannot eat that much food to even begin to get my goal. Do not drink with your meals at all. Chew very, very slowly and wait a few minutes in between bites. If you get that pain in the esophagus area it probably means you are eating too fast or you may already be full. Good Luck, I hope I helped some. Denise

I am almost 2 months post-op.....i can eat pretty normal....I cannot do cottage cheese......Try things like string cheese.....refried beans with cheese or sour cream.....cooked squash......saltines with peanut butter....when i am having a bad tummy day.....sometimes all I can eat is the crackers with peanut butter......To get my protein in I do shakes.....I hope to be able to eat all the protein I need some day...but right now it isn't possible! Just try little bites and lots of chewing......Good Luck...and with the slow weight loss....you are doing great and your body is still healing.....you will do fine....get in your water....protein...and exercise and it falls off!!!
