Not losing very fast

I had the lap Roux en Y on Dec. 9, 2003. I have only lost about 29 pounds in 7 weeks. I was just wondering if anyone else out there is losing this slowly. I'm still losing, but only about 1 or 2 pounds per week. It's been this way since I was 3 weeks out. I'm trying not to get too discouraged, but everyone else seems to be losing so much faster. I started out at 292.

Hi Rya, I have felt the same way. I had Open RNY on Dec 15th. I have lost 34lbs so far...now I'm at a standstill. I started at 286 so we're about in the same boat. I have just started an exercise program (very similar to Curves) and I hope it will jump start my metabolism. Don't be discouraged. I think it depends on how much you have to lose...as to how much you lose and how fast. Some people have quite a bit more and will lose more at first. Best Wishes. What kind of things are you eating now? Jeanie

I think that is a common concern for a lot of people. I lost 18lbs. the firtst 3 weeks and than just 1 lb. week 4. I was told to think of the weight loss as a stairway down, a drop, then level out, and then drop some more. Make sure you are getting in enough calories and water, sometimes eating too little can actually slow down your weight loss. I know for myself it is still discouraging when the scale doesn't move, no matter how much you tell yourself its ok..Hang in there.

I feel ya Rya! I had my surgery on 12/22 and have only lost 24 lbs in 5 weeks. I haven't loss anything for the last 3 weeks. I need to gt moving more, and get in more protein. I hope this will help. I started out at 315 and it is very hard not to get discouraged. Hang in there, you are not alone! Crystal

Hi Rya. I had my surgery on 12/18. I have lost about 33-34 lbs only. When I tell people this, they are like wow, but I wish I could lose more lbs. quicker. I also was told that if you lose too much too soon it is unhealthy. We are all anxious and in a rush. I believe that we all go at our own rate. I started at 301 and I am now about 266. Susan

my surgeon fussed today cause I was ONLY down 20 lbs since my surgery on 12/29. I started at 249 and weighed 229 today. She never told me how much she expected me to lose etc...so I had no idea. I had 10 days where I lost nothing and then Aunt Flow came on strong yesterday. SO I blame a good 5 lbs on that WITCH! I was quite happy with 5lbs and the fact that I am wearing a pair of jeans that fit tightly at my wedding time Sept 2002. AND they are quite comfortable! I have to get in my water--she says that is my biggest problem. my vitamins and protein are good. and i need to increase my exercise to 15-20 minutes at a minimum. I wonder what she expects or wants for my first 3 months ( I go back in 2) ... 30lbs first month? 2nd? 3rd? I will probably get fussed at if I am not around 70-80 in 3 months at this rate. GEEESH ....In 6 months she is probably expecting my entire excess weight to be gone...I want to hit 130 ....but it is more of clothing size than weight for me and I have wide hips....so if I can get into a comfy 10/12 I would be quite satisfied!

Shannon, my surgery was the same day as yours and I too have lost just 21 lbs. I think that we are doing good. After all, I wouldn't have lost that amount before this surgery in that amount of time. I started a little heavier than you at 268 but I think those folks that weigh a lot more when they start are having bigger losses. Bev

I had lap rny on 12/1/03 and as of today am down only 27 pounds. I started at 248 and I've heard all the stuff about being a lightweight, but that doesn't make it any easier. My doctor had a fit when I was in for 6 week checkup, said I should be losing 3.5 pounds a week. I added that up and it sound like he wants all my weight to be off in 7-8 months. What's up with that? I was giving myself a year to get to goal. I want to take advantage of this window of opportunity also, but if it doesn't come off as quickly as I want it to, I sure don't want to be bashed by the doctor who gave me a new lease on life. Anyway, yes I'm a slow loser and it's starting to really bother me.....

Hi everyone, Thank you for all of the nice responses. It really makes me feel better knowing there are others in the same boat. Rya
