I have always loved food..and frankly still do. I have been getting sick a lot. There are few types of foods that I can tolerate. (Then ones I do I can eat very well) It seems like every new food I try to give myself some variety (eggs, veggies, canned pastas) have all made me queasy and sick. My boyfriend and I go out to eat often..I am afraid to order because I don't want to get sick. Cause when I do..it's for hours. Anybody going through this??

Jean, heck yes woman! First off you know how different doc's give different instructions? Well pasta is a strict for me. I am sure it is the refined sugar and fat in it that would be upsetting your poor ol tummy. I have never been able to handle eggs either they just hurt! In our doc's eyes we can have soft cooked veggies or lettuce chewed very well (about a size of part os a cup saucer) maybe 1/2 cup lettuce. I have never made it all the way through the lettuce though. What can I eat? When we go out for me, chicken is safe as long as it has some sauce or something available to help it go down. Soups! Any kind of soups without pastas or rice. I am so glad we had this surgery in the winter so all the soups are available now so in the summer we can have the crisp cold veggies! Also out to eat fish is good and if it seems dry I use water/lemon juice mix to moisten it a bit. Know what else you can do? Go mexican to eat and get beans and cheese! Good protein and something different for a change. My favorite meal at home though is a peice of cheese with some fresh sliced deli meat wrapped around it and eat! Experiment gently on our poor bodies and we will make it! Shell lap rny 12/05/03 308/259...150 in my dreams!

Jean, What you are going through is normal. A few tips I can offer you are 1-for the first 21 days post-op do not eat anything you would not feed an infant without teeth. 2- Don't drink fluids until 30 minutes before or after your meal. 3- Pastina (over cook it, add some cheese and margarine) this is the safe pasta for us. The most important thing for you to remember is HIGH PROTEIN. Blenderize chicken, beef, fish, turkey, or tofu. Most important go to your support groups and GOOD LUCK !!
