Hey guys and gals, I am six weeks out and am dumping fairly regularly when trying certain foods. What are you eating that stays down and does not cause discomfort? Thanks Rocky 363/320

I can't handle Chinese food AT ALL. I think it might be the MSG's, because I've had the same problem with some premade gravies. I can't tolerate canteloupe. But bananas I can handle very well. If I have meat like beef or pork, even chicken, I really need to chew and chew very well, and stick with small amounts. Every morning I have instant oatmeal and this goes down very well. In fact I put my calcium citrate pills and vitamin pill in the bowl and let them melt - I can't even taste them. I've been having tuna for lunch a lot, but I mix in Italian Dressing with it, instead of mayonaise. It makes it more liquidy and easier to swallow. So, I just bring a container with tuna in it and dressing in it and eat it with a fork. I went to my daughter's baby shower last Sunday, and after eating a bun (bread usually doesn't bother me) I had to get up to use the washroom, as I thought I was going to throw up - but I didn't. Then I was able to sit down and eat a little chicken and broccoli (I avoided the gravy). I can't tolerate sugar AT ALL. I had 4 teaspoons of regular jello when I was on the liquids and was laying on the couch, sick as a dog for 3 hours. But I've had enough sweets in my life to last 100 lifetimes. Good luck! I'm eager to see what others have been able to eat!

I am sticking mostly to protein. Cheese, pork roast, meatloaf, canned fish. Small amounts are the key. We had surgery the same day, and that is all I am able to do. Good luck! Erica

Hi Rocky, You are doing great!! Look at that weight loss!. Sorry you've been dumping. I had my open RNY 12/15th also and I'm still doing protein shakes 2-3x day. Soups of all kind sit very well with me, I love hot-n-sour soup. Anytime we go to a restaurant, I get a soup or eat part of my husband's chicken or fish. Mashed potatoes go down well, but I don't like to eat many. I haven't dumped or vomited at all, but I can tell with a little nausea if I've had anything to drink too soon before eating. I also put the fork down if I feel the least bit full. Hope this helps...good luck and hope to hear from you again. Jeanie 12/15/03 Open RNY

Hi there. I had my surgery on December 16 and have lost 33 lbs so far. I didn't have any food issues until Tuesday of this week. I tried eating some chicken and didn't chew it well. I was so sick! Just now feeling a little better. Soup works well for me. Everything else has been fine too except chocolate. I tried having a low-sugar ice cream bar with light chocolate coating and felt really queasy. Sharone

Hey Rocky! I had my Open RNY the same day as you. I've had difficulty with breads and some meats. I've done well with the canned chicken and roasts (of all things). I also enjoy the pintos & cheese from Taco Bell. They've been a lifesaver for me. I usually get one for lunch (only .86 including tax in Dallas) and can eat 6-7 bites before I'm full. It just feels good to be able to eat out with my family. I've also done well with different types of soups and cheese and crackers have gone done good. I try not to eat many crackers though. Before my surgery I was a "bread freak" and would eat it at every meal. That has been hard to give up but they do make me sick. Best wishes to you! Great weight loss too! I've lost 32 lbs. so far.

Hi Rocky! I am 5 1/2 weeks out & have lost 41 lbs. now & feel great. I also have a hard time with foods. I have NO appetite but I still manage to get in 2-3 small meals (about 1/2 cup) per day. I can't eat anything sweet, no milk or lactose & no high fats. I don't vomit but I do get really hot/cold, sick to stomach & feel like @*#! for about an hour. I can eat pretty much anything else though. Lastnight I just had a Hawaiian thin crust pizza from Dominoes (it was great). Of course I can only eat a very small amount but it tasted great. Breads don't agree here so everything has to be "cracker like". The foods that I tolerate real well are : Mexican foods, salads, any meats (as long as they are moistened or not overcooked or reheated), Chicken Helper, Hamburger Helper, meatloaf, Chef Boy R D Raveoli & sometimes beef jerky, nuts (pistachios or peanuts) & I hope to try some popcorn. I also use Isopure ready to drink protein (40g protein per 20 oz bottle). I pretty much try about everything & just take it from there. I still never know what's going to make me ill, but I enjoy tasting new foods again. I was also trying to stay away from carbs but I eat so little right now, I don't think it makes a difference. I still eat my protein first & then have a couple small bites of noodles, rice or whatever. Hope this helps & congrats on the great WL Take care!
