Thick Liquid Phase & Carbs
I am 3 weeks post-op from my lap RNY. I was on clear liquids (including protein shakes) for two weeks and for my third week, I'm on thick liquids. I can't find any thick liquids that are really lo-carb. Mostly, I'm eating blended vegetable soups (squash, tomato, potato, split pea, lentil). My weight loss seems to be slower. I'm guessing I shouldn't obsess about this phase too much; it's only a week. But I'm curious as to what other folks are doing for the thick liquid phase that would involve fewer carbohydrates. What have you found to eat?
Harriett, I don't know if this equals the "pureed food" phase that my doctor uses, but I've been on that since coming home from the hospital (my lap RNY was the same week as yours). We do this for 4 weeks.
In my case, I've been having a lot of nonfat yogurt and cottage cheese, as well as Eggbeaters with lowfat cheese and sugar free applesauce. These things have worked well for me -- low carb, high protein, etc. But I don't know if your doc considers that "thick liquid." I also got some sugar free tomato puree and added it to fat free chicken broth plus seasonings to make my own tomato soup that is good.
Hope that helps and you're doing well.
