Nausea/Vomiting

I had roux n y 12/5/03. I was surprised at how much pain I had afterward. After my drain was removed, it turned out I had an infected drain site. That's cleared up now. I'm having problems tolerating foods. I can tolerate bananas, tuna, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes. I had some chicken chop suey, about 2 spoons of it and got severely nauseated and vomited right away. Then my husband ordered pizza and fried chicken from a pizza restaurant. I knew enough to stay away from the pizza, but I took the skin off a chicken thigh, and had about 2 tiny bites and again got severely sick. I'm thinking it's MSG's maybe. Of course sweets give me dumping syndrome (that's a good thing in my case). But also I'm now lactose intolerant. This bums me out because I was counting on using milk as a source of protein. I know a lot of these food intolerances will subside in time. Just would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks and Happy New Year to all!

Wow, I am not even allowed anything that is not pureed yet. You might try going back a step and giving your body a chance to heal some more. It is still very soon post-surgery for chunks of food. I am not allowed that at all until I am six weeks out. Sandra

I am on a liquid diet and will be for 4 weeks after surgery(12-24-03). Maybe you should try a softer diet for now and heal a bit more before trying "real" food. Good luck and please don't get discouraged Pat

Thanks, I think maybe my surgeon's dietician does put a person on solids too soon. I'm doing better this week. I think I was retaining water last week because I've lost 5 1/2 lbs over the weekend. I drank a lot of water, and I think that helped clear out the excess fluids.

I was not allowed to eat anything that harsh after surgery. You need to stay on liquids and soft liquids. Your tummy will be sore.

Stay away from junk food, I have the same problem as it looks so good. I use lactaid milk, yes It does work so don't give up on dairy completely.
