Is there something wrong?
I had my surgery on 12/10 and I am now 9 days post-op and I haven't lost any weight yet. Well maybe 6-10 lbs. that I would know of. Is that normal or should I be losing more. I am doing what I am supposed to do. When do you really start taking off the weight. I have so many questions. Does the time or the length of walking matters? I am also afraid that if I eat something that is high in fat or sugar or both I won't get the dumping syndrome. I want to be able to get this so not only do I know I shouldn't eat those types of foods, but I will have a personal experience. I want this loss to happen to me so bad and I am afraid that it will not happen. I was told that I could eat fat-free and low sugar ice cream and so I got some since I am still on the liquids, but I am now feeling like I am pushing it. One last question to whom ever can help me; really why are we on liquids for 4 weeks? Thank you!
I had surgery on 12/9 the night before my surgery I weighed myself, after I came out of surgery I weighed 10 pounds more. I don't know if you have access to these numbers for yourself or not but the point I am trying to make is, I took on 10 extra pounds just from the IV fluids and that is about average. I had to walk, walk, walk and walk some more to help rid my body of these extra water pounds. Now, I am 10 days post op and have lost about 15 pounds, I am really obese so depending on if you are less than me, you may start of slower, I would suggest, don't get frustrated, keep up the directions of the doctor and make sure you are drinking your water. Then only weigh yourself every week at the most, try to focus on your health more so than your weight, it will come as you increase the health. I want to see my weight gone yesterday so don't think I am good at all this but I do try.
Good luck and email any time, we can be loosers together.

I had my surgery on 12/11 and went to my post op on 12/19. I had lost 10 lbs but sure didn't feel like it. I was still very bloated in the upper stomach area. I have added cream of chicken soup to my liquids and am trying the protein shakes now, so my energy is much better! Truth is.. I know the weight is going to come off.. and the slower it happens... the better chance that I can work out and keep the skin from sagging too badly. Good luck!
Nothing's wrong. I had my surgery on the 26th and gained 16 lbs in the hospital. In the two days I've been home I've lost 8 of those 16 lbs. I agree with the other poster. Follow your doctor's orders, and focus on your health. And try to have a little patience. We all didn't get this way overnight. As much as we all want it to, it's not going to come off overnight either.
Be sure to follow your doctor's orders. I believe any form of ice cream is not good. Stick with only nutritional foods so you get healthy nutrition into your body. My doctor allowed me at 2 weeks to add pureed foods. I take good beans or soups and puree them - don't have more than 3 to 4 ounces at a time. I just started soft foods today meaning I can eat mashed potatoes, oatmeal, bananas. On liquids, I drank a lot of broth with my protein powder mixed in. I add a scoop of poweder to everything. Again, no sugars, no fats. Good luck to you.
