I'm having a very difficult time with the protein shake diet and only liquids 2 weeks before surgery. I'm hungry a lot but ahven't given to my urge to eat. How are others handling this aor have handled this. My surgery is scheduled for Dec.12, 2003. To me even it's not much longer it seems liek years. I also can't tolerate caffiene free/diet pop. Has anyone ever experienced this before. Can't stand to drink anything that'sdiet anymore. I live on the protein shakes, water and sugar free jello. Bye and have a great day connie dandydaddy2003

Connie, Your taste buds will change after surgery. Although I did not try protein shakes before surgery or just liquids before surgery, there is one I particularly like and that is the EAS low-carb shake in the little silver boxes. You can get them at Wal-Mart pretty cheap. It's probably good that you don't like diet pop....it's really hard to drink after surgery and makes your tummy feel like it's going to explode....there are better choices. Is there a reason your physician has you on this sort of diet before surgery? Anyway, I wish you the best with your surgery. You won't regret it. There may be day or two at first where you'll wonder if you did the right this...but this will pass. Im down 147.5 lbs and my 1-year anniversay is the 31st of this month. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Take care and let us know how you are doing. Teresa

Hey, I'm right there with you. I have been on liquids and protein shakes too. My surgeon wanted me to lose 25 lbs before my surgery (I've lost 32 lbs so far). So far so good; Thanksgiving was the hardest. My problem is that I don't get enough calories because I'm just not crazy about the shakes. I'm drinking as much water as I can--in fact I set Outlook to remind me every 15 minutes to take a drink. I've stopped caffiene over a four-week time period too. Ten days to go. Sometimes I'd rather eat nothing than to choke down those shakes. I also have chicken broth with a jar of baby food turkey mixed in--that's not bad. Good luck!

I don't know how you do it! I'm sch'd for 12/12 also My dr does not reqire any diet. I'm really nervous and I'd be hard pressed to deal with it by drinking shakes. I'll have enuf of that post op Good luck to you!
