Fourth of July Parties!
Hi there to all!
Now getting to what I want to ask everyone. I hope everyone is healthy and happy.
I went to my sisters for this yearly Independence Day Barbacue. I have gained over the last few months a few pounds while I was laid up with my foot surgery. I have been bike riding and changed my Tyroid medications so, I have taken it off. The thought of this party panicked me. FOOD FOOD FOOD EVERYWHERE!
They started with the chips and dips, so I went right to the veggie platter and dipped a bit. "NO CHIPS" so far so good. Meal time, I had a piece of italian sausage and a great big salad. I knew there was something I wanted to have from the "DESERT BAR" so I had my Lemon Meringue Pie. It was yummy. I did not get sick and did not dip in anything else so I could have it. I have come to far in my life to just not have that slice of pie, I wanted so bad.
So how was your Holiday?
Was there lots of foods and challenges for you?
Have a great guys and lets hear from all of you guys. I want to know am I the only one who goes through this especially at Family functions and gatherings.
Lorraine
Hi Lorraine,
We had a very quiet fourth....the morning was beautiful but the fireworks were dampened by typical So. FL scattered thunderstorms. Anyway, Wednesday is probably the worst day to have a holiday....mid week and a single day....but, don't get me wrong, I was grateful to not have to be at work.
I find myself slacking in exercise. I try to always take the stairs....to park a reasonable distance from whereever it is I am going but it just doesn't seem enough. I really must try to do better. As far as eating....I really don't each much more at nearly 3 1/2 years out. I seldom get nauseated because I've learned what I CAN and CAN"T eat and I try very hard to abide by my "tools" design. Saturday I took a bite or two of plain cheesecake but I am amazed that I still have no "crazy carb cravings".
Did I know about your foot surgery? What did you have done?
Hope the remainder of your summer is GR8T~

Hi there Sunny!! How are you? Since you asked about my surgery I will be begin to tell of this horrible nightmare. In November I think the 11th I had 8 Hammertoes repaired. No rods they just broke them to straighten them out. I could no longer work on the floors. My toes were so badly bent they were bleeding.
My Nueopathy did not make it easy to heal. I had 6 months of the worse pain and even though that has healed my toes are numb. I had some stuff time. If it were not for the WLS , I am sure I would have been in kidney failure with the extreme severity of the Diabetes. This was the worse surgery I ever had. Oh well its too late.
P.S. I have applied for my pension with the hospital and got Social Security Disability so I retired at 55. The toes are slowly straightening out. I went for another opion to a Diabetic Podiatrist and he said the other Dr should not have done all 8 but it make take time to straighten out. The right foot is beginning to look better. There are no sores from the surgery just the numbness, but even more after the Nueopathy I had already. Otherwise I am enjoying the summer and gardening.
They changed my Synthroid so I am back to "SKINNY ME" where I started at my lowest.I am now taking a higher dose that tends to make me lose weight. All clothes that were a bit snug due to my 8 pound gain during my illnes has come off.
Take care of yourself and your family.

Holiday's are the same for me, since I don't celebrate, being a Witness. I don't have any food issues. I know how far I can go, what I can, and can't have. I can eat a piece of cake or pie, but have to take a dairy ease if I have cheesecake or ice cream. I try to have sugar free and fat free whenever possible. My weight is steady and I'm feeling much better. My doctor put me on Lexapro, an antidepressant that is a 'must' for CFS sufferers. It helps with the pain and erratic mood swings. So I am able to reduce other meds, including some heavy duty pain meds and that's always a good thing. It's nice to be able to enjoy a day now, just because it's a nice day.
