Prayers for Madelene
Glad everything has worked out for you!!
I hope when Dr. Starr says that you (patients) can speed up the process by paying for the social worker and dietician yourself is not implying that you get bumped up in surgery dates.
Before you go spending tons of money -- I would be curious to ask that for instance you pay for the appointments and get the 3 appointments done within a month how soon after that can you expect a surgery date. I would think that it would just get your name on the list a little sooner but you will still have a 6 month to a year wait for a surgery date? Or am I totally wrong in thinkning that Dr. Starr has got a long waiting list??
Oh, I forgot!! You have coverage for that!! Okay then! Go for it!! Ignore all the above!! lol
I'm with Dr. Starr too -- as anxious as I am to have this surgery and get on with things I'm glad I've had the time inbetween my consult and surgery. I had my consult in Nov. and have a surgery date of July 29th -- this time inbetween has really given me time to do research, read up on it, to really feel comfortable with what is going to happen -- and not just me but my family too. I've gone to a few support group meetings, talked to a few people that have had it done -- and feel a whole lot more sure of myself going in. I am actually glad I didn't have it much sooner.
So anyhow -- totally ignore all this!! lol
Oh and someone posted somewhere on the the boards recently about the cost of the consults in case you were interested.
Good for you!
You really have me thinking about the DS as well. I've been reading about it knew that there were possible complications with the staples as well. I heard some surgeons hand sew to reduce this complication. I haven't ssen my Dr. yet (still waiting for OHIP approval) so I'm not sure what he does specifically. I guess that's something else for me to think about. Thanks for opening my eyes! I'm glad you were able to get the ball rolling and I'm sure you'll have a date sooner than you think.
Laurie
Hi Everyone..thanks for the great responses.
Dr Starr definitely said if I wanted to reduce the wait time, that I could self pay for the 2 appointments (dietician and social worker). Once you have the appointment dates, they will book the internist. After they are completed you get your next appoint and surgery date...so it will speed it up.
Tammy...I posted on one of your posts from yesterday...I was there at the same time, accross from you...denim jacket, brown hair...jeans...
Lauri - I think you need to come to your own conclusions...it cant hurt to get on an Ontario waitlist, just in case (dr starrs is the shortest) and take it from there....for me it was hearing a surgeon talk about all the options - the pros and cons of each type of surgery that really opened my eyes and turned me back to the rny... in the end you will go with the surgery that you feel is the best option for you....good luck....
Thanks again everyone...klee
