Topic: One Year Anniversary
Well, it's been 1 year, and I've lost 130lbs and I wear a straight size 16. I allways thought that you had to weigh under 200lbs to wear that size, but I guess not. I have a goal of 170 and I will continue to strive towards that, even if I don't dump now and I've began to eat sugar. The holidays kind of got to me, but I'm so grateful to Goid and my Dr. Streeter that I could just break down and cry right now. I get a lot of negative stuff from people, but they didn't suffer like I did before the weight loss and I'm not going to worry about them now. The only thing now is that I have a new love in my life, and I love my husband also, but it's going to work out ok I'm sure. I don't want to hurt him, but I had problems before the weight loss. maybe this is just a fling, and I have honestly tried to prevent this. If you have any advice I do welcome it, just don't beat up on me please.

It has been a year today that I had my surgery. Everything has gone great. Have lost 114 lbs so far and hoping to lose about 20 more. Went from size 24 slacks to a size 12 I bought today!

Topic: Eight pounds shy
I just came from my one-year checkup. If I lose eight more pounds I'll literally be half the man I used to be. On the day of my surgery I weighed in at 402 pounds, and after one year I'm down to 209. Can't complain about that, can I? I'm actually sort of hoping I'm about done--it would be nice to be able to buy some nice clothes and not worry that I'm spending money on something I'll only be able to wear for a few months. But just as a sort of numerical milestone, I'd like to get below 200. At my height I'm still officially "overweight" according to the charts the government puts out (BMI 26, where 25 is "normal.") Since I know my success is not typical, let me tell you what I suspect is the reason for it: A year ago my counselor told me that I might get sick to my stomach from eating foods containing refined sugar. Some folks who have had the surgery have told me that they don't have this problem, but I'm here to tell you that I have no idea whether I have it or not--I haven't tried to find out. For the last year, except for whatever trace amounts exist in things like ketchup or peanut butter, I have eaten no refined sugar at all, and I honestly don't miss it--though Christmas with my family may be tough! I really suspect that's the main reason I've done so well. Nutritionists tell us we're not really built to process refined sugar anyway, and I fully intend to keep it up.
Topic: First Anniversary... Down 145 pounds!!!
Hi all... My first anniversary and I am down 145 pounds. From 430 to 285, and I have more energy than I have had in 15 - 20 years. I find myself running up stairways, and across distances. I even started riding bike again. Couldn't even ride length of driveway for last 10 years without knees feeling the size of basketballs. Now I ride my recumbent bike anywhere from 2-10 miles at a time. I would do it again in a heartbeat!!! Thank God insurance finally is realizing the need and benefits of WLS... Dr Rupp from ST. Joes/ United did my surgery and he was great!!! Also, Joyce, his nurse was a great help... Thanks to both!!!! Ed

I have been so bad about posting! But congratulations to all my "loser" sisters and brothers. I turned "one" on December 10th with 164lbs gone forever! This past year has been one of many transitions, but I too would go back and do it ALL (including the pain) over again, to feel half as good as I do now! This surgery was such a blessing to me. Happy and safe holidays to all.

Hello to all of my December 2002 WLS friends.
On December 12, I celebrated my one year anniversary of having open RNY gastric bypass surgery.
To date I have lost 92# and 73 1/2 inches.
I have surgery dates for both a breast reduction and an abdominoplasty the first part of the new year.
If I had it to do all over again, I certainly would. The surgery has saved my life and gotten me off all of my medications.
I hope everyone else is doing well too.
Happy Holidays to all.
