My surgery is 12 days away and up until today I have been super excited about it. What changed is that my mom called and told me she didn't think I need it now that I have a new medication for my hypersomnia/narcolepsy and I am a lot more active now. I told her I still want it (and I do) and she said she doesn't think I'm big enough to need surgery. I think I am. My high weight was 280 and my current weight is 250 that's still a bmi above 40! I know myself and normal diets only work for a few months and I know I would not be able to lose all that I want and keep it off without surgery. I actually eat very healthy foods my problem is portion control. I still feel I need this surgery but my mom went and planted that small seed of doubt. She did say she is just scared and uneasy about me only having part of my stomach. How do you handle people who don't want you to have the surgery? Ugghhh why did she have to say that especially waiting until 12 days before surgery when she had the last 6 months to say something. Sorry for the ranting just needed to vent.
Hi everyone. My surgery is scheduled for November 10th. Only 12 days away! I started my pre-op diet on Monday and it's been going good. Thankfully my pre-op diet does include real foods it's not just liquids. So far I have lost 4lbs already.
Day 2 of Optifast. I didn't realize how much caffeine played a roll in my life. I don't know how to wake up with out it. My stomach doesn't like cold in it first thing in the morning. Feeling pain in stomach today. I'm sure it will pass as the days go by. Is anyone having the surgery in Toronto? Can you cook your veggies, and can you have broths? Having trouble getting a hold of dietitian.
Right now, not too much, but I'm sure this time next week will be a different story. Right now I'm looking forward to the 1st week post op thin liquid. At least then I'll be off this optifast and have some broth and real protein shakes. I know it will be a huge improvement over the optifast.
No jitters for me yet. I don't think it acutally feels real yet. I have been going through all of the hoops for insurance for so many months, I think I have become numb to the excitement/anxiety. I have 2 weeks and 1 day before surgery (Nov 12th) and I am sure once I get to a couple of days before surgery, the panic will set in!
I'm having the VSG on Nov 12th! I start my pro-op all liquid diet tomorrow, and I too will be drinking the chocolate Premier Protein Shakes. They are actually pretty dang good. I used to drink a Slim Fast for breakfast and when I started this process over 6 months ago, I started using the Premier Protein instead. I am just hoping that I will still like them after I have surgery so I don't have to try to find something new.
