My surgery date is November 23 (that's right 2 days before Thanksgiving, but that's OK).  That is just 5 days from today and the emotions/nerves are setting in.  I've had to keep myself real busy today to keep my brain quiet.  On the positive side of that, you should see my house...LOL!!!

I'm as prepared for this as a person can be, but I just cannot picture myself on the other side.  I've had a weight problem for so long now it is difficult for me to remember not having one.  I've got great support all around me, sometimes I think maybe too much (ha, is that possible??).

I think I'm going to be on here a lot over the next several days.

I had to have blood work, EKG, and a chest xray.  I was on the phone with the surgeons office on Tuesday and they had not gotten back the test results back from the lab.  Spoke to the surgical coordinator and they said they would put a rush on getting the results sent to their office.  I met with my PCP yesterday and saw that the testing was faxed over.  My doctor told me that my potassium was low, so I was put on pills to get it to go up.  She said it wouldn't affect me having surgery. I have to go to the lab on Saturday to get that tested.  I also had to have my EKG repeated b/c my heart rate was high. My heart was beating 114 beats per minute,  My doctor knew that I was probably nervous when the test was going on.  Once they did it, it was fine and my heart was beating 84 beats per minute. She said she will fill out the forms and fax it back to my surgeon,

I just bought Bariatrix ready to serve drinks in chocolate and vanilla. It has 100 calories and 15 grams of protein. My NUT has a whole list of approved protein drinks and powders. They actually taste pretty good.  There website is bariatrix.com.  You won't be able to buy it off their website. But if you put your state, they will tell you a place that you can buy it.  It cost me $16.50 for a package of 6. So I bought two. I have also ordered samples from another company, so when I get them, I will let you know how they taste.

I hope everything goes well with your pre-op testing.

I finally am scheduled for my RNY - November 30th...The process took a whole year from the date I applied for the procedure.  I am grateful that after two denials...I was finally approved.  Great Christmas Present to myself!

Hello Lisa.  I started my 2 week liquid diet Monday, and I go for pre-op tomorrow.  I should meet with the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and the NUT again tomorrow as well as having blood work done.
What kind of testing do you have to have done?  I hope that they get everything together so you can get clearance.
I wish you the very best of luck.  Have you started experimenting with different proteins?  If so have you found one that you like?

Wow you are really active...
My surgery is on Friday and I can't hardly wait. I like your post because I too have issues with taking pain meds... I just do not like not being in control. I have been told by my doctor that the day of surgery I will be up walking and will be encouraged to continue...
I am so proud of you.. you are doing really good and your attitude is wonderful
good luck and keep on loosing

Yes! I have certainly noticed that my sense of smell is heightened! I like it! At least most of the time!

Well the day of my surgery the Dr told me to walk my door and back - the nurse came in that night had had me walking down to the nurses station and back.... I did walk a little further each day. I look back and I am glad that the nurse pushed me. I had also stopped the morphine pump two days post op so I could walk more and feel more in control of my thoughts.

Got to come a day early.. YEAH

got out on Friday, went to Garden Ridge and Hobby Lobby.

got out on Saturday walked the lower and uppper level of the mall

went to the grocery store on Sunday

Monday went to Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart and Target. Clean the kitchen and did laundry.

Tuesday back to Garden Ridge looking for placemats since I have a dining room table now. Oh and I have not had any pain meds since last night at 9:00pm .. feeling good - a little sore - but good.
