Yep - it's apparently pretty common. I'm 3 weeks out (today), and I'm still a lot more sensitive to smells than before. But as you said, it's almost as good to smell the food as to eat it...

At this point, it's most likely "head hunger" - a very common phenomenon after WLS. We're all used to eating a whole lot more, and your brain just takes time to wrap around the idea that you just can't eat as much (if at all - 3 days out). Just remind her to trust the program, and do what her surgeon and nutritionist tell her to do, and she'll do fine. When I was at that stage, every time I felt "hungry" I would take a few sips of Isopure, then get up and walk. It helped a lot. Encourage her to walk as much as she can.

The liquid is hardest during the first few days - keep busy, occupy yourself with other activities that can't involve food - ie - do your nails, knit, read, go for a walk.

Thanksgiving will be hard - but you can do it - the liquid really helps to prep your body so you are in the best shape possible and help to minimize the risks.

My surgery is the same day! I also have the feeling of not being able to see myself on the losing end. Our minds are good at playing tricks ;)

Topic: NEED HELP

November 26 is my surgery date. How do you do this liquid diet? Only been on this for 2 days and think I am straving. I had to have some thing. I Made some instant potatoes sure that was a no no but had to have something. I have to do this on Thanksgiving. Suggestion needed.
