Are you as totally scared as I am?  LOL  When I say scared I mean of pain...the entire experience really.  I don't get sick often (knock on wood) and I would like to think that I am pretty tough...but this really does scare me.

I agree - I've heard so many different stories about recovery -every one is different - some go easily some have a hard time with recovery and pain and subsequent complications.

Here's hoping out surgeries go well and relatively pain free.

Cheers

Congrats I am scheduled for Nov 22nd. I was originally scheduled for Oct 18th but my surgeon had to have surgery and now it is nov. 22nd. I am also scared of how much pain I might be in but my main fear is how sick I will feel. I hate being sick to my stomach and vomiting is just not an option for me most of the time. I hate it and that is my main fear. I know people who had no stomach sickness after surgery and did fine with everything so I am hoping to be one of those people. I was not worried too muc about the pain because I had a c-section done in 2009 for my duaghter and it really was not that bad. I mean pain wise I thought it would be worse but it wasnt too bad. I think if I can handle an open surgery like that I should be able to handle a lap surgery ok. I have also had my gualbladder out which was lap and it was sore for a whiel but not too much pain wiht it either. Anyway I do share fears and I am trying to keep my mind off of it till it gets closer. I think it will sink in more when I start my liquid diet. Good luck to you also

Be happy with who you are.

I am also having my surgery on 11/29.  I am excited and scared.  Reality started to set in, when I spoke the surgical coordinator an couple of days ago and she told me that everything was all set up at the hospital.  Good luck to you.

I am scared and nervous as well.  I start my liquid diet tomorrow and have pre-op on Thursday the 18th.  It is funny as I was walking through Wal-Mart today picking up nothing but soups and liquids it hit me that life is changing....quickly.  I remember back in August when I went for my first appointment and wished things would hurry up and now it is 2 weeks away.

Are you going to be on the liquid diet until surgery?  I just met with the NUT for the final time before surgery.  I have been on a low sugar, low fat, high protein diet for the last month.  I have lost 12 lbs.  My NUT was very happy and and has been amazed at how my mindset has changed.  I went for pre-op testing last week at the hospital that I am having surgery in b/c my PCP's office is giving me trouble about the testing that I need.  They told me that I needed a script from the surgeon for all the tests I need.  I was thinking if he gives me a script for the tests, the results will go to him not to my PCP.  I spoke to the surgical coordinator and she told me that once I get the testing done, the hospital will fax the results to him and they will have to fax to my doctor.  I hope my doctor has all results when I go in on Wednesday for the clearance.

I also picked up protein shakes today. I have no desire to buy a big tub of protein powder to make shakes.  My NUT said I will be getting them in the hospital, but she said they are not that great. So I figured, I would bring my own.

I cant believe in 2 weeks we are going to be having surgery.

Hello Lisa.  I started my 2 week liquid diet Monday, and I go for pre-op tomorrow.  I should meet with the surgeon, the anesthesiologist and the NUT again tomorrow as well as having blood work done.
What kind of testing do you have to have done?  I hope that they get everything together so you can get clearance.
I wish you the very best of luck.  Have you started experimenting with different proteins?  If so have you found one that you like?
