Had RNY surgery on the 10th.  Almost a week out now and I am really sore.  The main hole in the center of belly is the worst.  Plus, my girls keep putting their hands on those spots on accident.  Found out that I am not ready for string cheese.  It bound me up so bad that I was nearly in tears. (Yes, I chewed, chewed, and chewed.)   While I am still in pain, I am planning on seeing if the surgeon will release me for work on wednesday.  I have just about used up my paid time off.  With Christmas coming up, I want to use as little lost time as I can.

Well, I hope all you that have had surgery already are doing well and that all that have surgeries coming up do well.  Ya'll are in my prayers.

You will be anxious until they put you under.  Then, you will wake up and only think about the road ahead.

Good luck!

Well, surgery had to be postponed until Sunday 11/15 because I went into Afib as I went into surgery and went under anesthesia.  I came home last night, been in some discomfort but I'm doing ok for the most part.  My PCP told me that this probably happened because my thyroid levels went back up again.

Atrial fibrillation (AF or Afib) is the most common type of irregular heartbeat. It is found in about 2.2 million Americans. It increases with age. If you have AF, the impulse does not travel in an orderly fashion through the atria. Instead, many impulses begin simultaneously and spread through the atria and compete for a chance to travel through the AV node.

The firing of these impulses results in a very rapid and disorganized heartbeat. The rate of impulses through the atria can range from 300 to 600 beats per minute. Luckily, the AV node limits the number of impulses it allows to travel to the ventricles. As a result, the pulse rate is often less than 150 beats per minute, but this is often fast enough to cause symptoms. The AV node limits the number of impulses that travel to the ventricles.

What Are the Symptoms of Atrial Fibrillation?

You may have atrial fibrillation without having any symptoms at all. If you have symptoms, they may include:

  • Heart palpitations (a sudden pounding, fluttering, or racing feeling in the chest).
  • Lack of energy; feeling over-tired.
  • Dizziness (feeling faint or light-headed).
  • Chest discomfort ( pain, pressure, or discomfort in the chest).
  • Shortness of breath (difficulty breathing during normal activities or even at rest).

Glad to hear that all went well with your surgery Tanya.  Thanks for the tips about the heating pad--that just might come in handy!

Good luck with your surgery today ladies!!  Be sure to post how things went after you return home & get situated.

I'll be doing the liquid diet the day before (that's all that is required with my surgeon).  That's a day I'm not looking forward to, but I know it will get me all cleaned out & prepped for surgery.

I also had surg on 11/10. Been over 20 years since I had surg and yes it hurts! But  the discomfort now is located in my left side where most of the work was done.  I know it will get better. As everyone says -sip,sip,sip.
