Topic: Had surgery on Nov 17th- first day I feel like geeting online
I had RNY on Nov 17th. Everything went really well and they talked about sending me home the next day, but I got sick. So then I was on track for going home Thurs, but got sick again. They sent me for an X-ray and I had a bowel obstruction. I walked and stopped taking pain meds and it worked out. I was so ready to get out of the hospital Friday I was practically begging to go home. Not showering or washing your hair for days does something to you.
I went home Friday, took my shower and went to bed. Yesterday was much better! I had my magazines, comfy chair, and walked the hallways and alittle outside. And for those who have had it done...I sipped all day long! I had no idea how little my pouch would hold.
You aren't hungry. You might think that because your bowels are moving and have gas, It gives the same sound and feeling of hunger pangs.
All is well today. I am even making biscuits for the family. I am on liquids for about 2 weeks, well closer to 4 weeks. Smells bother me, but the idea of eating food is not a problem.
Good Luck to everyone this month! It does get better!

It was frustrating at the time especially because I was mentally ready for it. Now, it's over, done and I'm on the mend and ready to LOSE! :)

I came home today. Surgery took four and a half hours, but God bless that Doctor, he stayed with it. And to my ultimate surprise I awoke to the news that the surgery had been a success and it had been done laparoscopically. What a gift!

I use the IS thingy. I also mix water and juice together because i hate the after taste. The only thing I have found so far that is really good is dulce de leche sf pudding. Ironically I didnt have a problem with regular tapioca pudding so maybe sugar wont cause dumping for me but I dont want to chance it again. I had some grits with Jimmy Dean sausage mixed in but they werent as "runny" as they needed to be so that hurt. I ate one ritz and felt like I ate for days. I pureed some chicken noodle soup and it was extra salty.

I hate the aftertast of the sf foods as well. I've tried diluting regular jucie with water and ice .... it's ok per the doctor... that has helped me some.
I'll give the vietnamese soup a try.... it's something that my husband makes, it just never dawned on me to have him make that..... thanks for the idea.

I had a visit from a girlfriend that is 17 months out & has kept off half her body weight even after having a baby. I was freaking chicken & beef broth for two weeks no flippin way. I hate suger free popsicles & sugar free jello (funny after taste). She brought me Pho broth from a Vietnamese restaurant. She order it no meat no veggies no noodles just soup. She said they thought she was crazy. She also recommended Wonton soup broth. She also brought Arizona Diet Green Tea & Welch's cranberry juice both drinks have splenda. Although not a huge fan a I can make it through a EAS Advant EDGE Carb Control protein shake. Hope the info helps I know I felt better.

Hi Diane,
Did the hospital send you home with the IS (incentive spirometer)? That little breathing thing sure helped my lungs clear and helped with the chest pressure I was having.
Are you having any trouble drinking liquids? I'm finding it a real effort getting all this fluid down.

I am also having trouble with the protein shakes making me queasy and would really like to try some real food.... very tired of the yogurt and soups... I tried 3 different soups today and all of them tasted really off ..... very salty. Not sure why. I get to have soft foods starting monday - such as scrambeled eggs, cream of wheat, etc... I'm really looking forward to that.
Sorry that your pain is bad - do you have pain meds to take? I find that if I stay on top of the pain then I feel better and less queasy. Doc said I could also take some liquid tylenol along with the lortab.... maybe you could try that?
Was your procedure open or laproscopic?
Sorry that you don't have much support .... count on your friends here - does the hospital have support groups for their bariatric patients? I find that very helpful at my hospital.
Hang in there, i'll send good thoughts your way.
