Hi there. I had my surgery on November 3rd also. I soooo hear you about the weight loss. I weighed in last Wednesday and had lost 22.5 lbs. Since last Wednesday I've lost .5 lbs for a total of 23 in four weeks. I'm thrilled with that but am also a little bummed that I didn't lose any this week. It's so confusing how we can't be losing. I haven't been able to exercise as much. I've been walking a few times for 30 minutes or so and am doing the Wii Fit a little as well. I had a complication right after surgery and lost a lot of blood and had to get a couple of transfusions. I've been pretty weak and it's been a little harder getting my stamina back up to par. I'm feeling much better now though.
I haven't been doing as well with my shakes. I find that they all make me a little nauseous afterwards. Not like I'll actually get sick but just icky feeling. They taste good, I really like them but it's not worth feeling icky for a couple hours afterwards. I'm close to my protein intake. Water is getting old fast but I get plenty in through the day.
Keep in touch. I'd love to hear how you're doing!!

I'm experiencing some constipation too. My doctor told me to take 2 tbsp. of Milk of Magnesia twice a day. It's easy on the system, you can drink it, and it works pretty quickly. I used it last week & it helped to get things going. I just need to keep up on it, maybe drink it every other day or something to keep me regular, especially while I'm still on pain meds (which isn't helping with the constipation).
Hope you find some relief soon.

Topic: RE: 3 weeks still in a lot of pain anyone else?
I had surgery 12 days ago & I'm still on pain meds all day. I too thought my pain would be better by now but it's still an issue. I can't sleep in my bed at night, I have to sleep & hang out in a recliner chair in my bedroom (laying flat on my back in bed & rolling on my side to get out are just too tough for me right now). Taking a shower is what really kills me since I have to take my support band off. I thought I was one of the only ones who's still experiencing pain, so as much as it sucks at least you know you're not alone.
I take Roxicodone (I think that's what it's called; it's liquid Percocet without the Tylenol) every 3 hours while I'm awake. I don't take any meds while I'm sleeping, so I usually go about 7 hours at night without any meds. But, as soon as I wake up I take a dose of meds & take it every 3 hours after that til' I go to bed at night.
I'm also worrying that my weight loss is going more slowly cuz' I'm taking the pain meds & therefore have a bit of constipation. I'm not sure where my weight loss should be at this point, but since my surgery 12 days ago I'm only down 7.6 lbs. I know everyone loses weight at their own speed, but I thought I would be a little more down in weight than that. How has your weight loss been while still being on pain meds? I've been making myself get out in the morning to walk for 30 mintues everyday to see if that helps get my weight loss going, so we'll see if that helps some too. I can't walk anymore than that cuz' I get really sore & exhausted.
I hope our pain will just magically disappear one day, and hopefully soon. Just know you're not alone in still experiencing pain.

Hey Laura,
Congrats to you too!!! I went through like 6 different kinds of shakes before I found one I like, one tip is, the Vitamin Shoppe near me was able to give me a few samples to try which was awesome because as you know it gets expensive and frustrating when you hate it! The one I drink is by Syntrax and it's the Nectar line, there are tons of flavors but the one I like is Strawberry Kiwi, I use a Blender Bottle and position it so I can't smell it, I put about 10 oz of water instead of 8 and it seems to dilute it a bit more, shake it good but a few ice cubes to keep it really cold and it goes down really easy!!!
So off topic but still relevant, the last 10 days I can't seem to lose, I've lost maybe 3 lbs after dropping 17 the first two weeks and it's driving me crazy, I'm eating like 500 calories a day, exercising, drinking my shakes, drinking as much water as I can... I know lots of people say they have like a 3rd week slump but... it's a little frustrating! :) Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?

Tomorrow makes two weeks for me & I have not had pain killers in two days. I have pain on the upper right & sometimes left incision. My bruises are finally improving. I do wake up hurting at night so I might take them tonight. I found the pain killers allow me to do more which I am afraid is slowing down my recovery because I then do too much. Good Luck

Hey Karil,
I've been going through the same thing, the support group I go to has this "gruel" or so they call it, 1 Cup of All Bran, 1 Cup of Prune Juice and 1 Cup of Apple Sauce, mix and refrigerate, you can have 1-2 TBSP in the AM and PM, they swear by it, it worked for me, I put a little splenda in it, it does NOT look pleasant but doesn't taste too bad. I had that about a week ago and then went I saw my surgeon she said it's normal for your habits to change, I also have taken Mira-lax twice and it works like magic and it's a very mild laxative and Gastro MD's recommend it all the time. I think it's because we are getting so little fiber and roughage and let's face it, we aren't eating all that much! ;) Hope you feel better!

Topic: 3 weeks post op, having trouble with constipation
Hi,
I am having trouble. At my 1 week post op the Dr. suggested i have some warm prune juice, and that worked great, very fast. So, every few days, that is what i would do. No, at 3 weeks post op, it doesn't work for me. I did finally go a little today, but i know i am not okay cause i have pain and i feel uncomfortable. What has worked for any one else? i will call the nut tomorrow and see what she suggests, i am just curious what others have done. I feel pretty good otherwise, it is just that i am not "going" regularly. Is this normal?
