Plateau
You've probably hit a plateau cuz' you lost so much the 1st week. I had surgery on 11/19 & have only lost 7.6 lbs. So, your 20 lbs. is excellent!! My scale is moving REALLY slow over here which is super frustrating!! I think once I get off the pain meds hopefully that'll get things moving a bit more. Not sure that there is any certain amount we're supposed to lose right away or not, but it sounds like you've lost quite a bit which is good. I know it can be super frustrating when the scale doesn't move...hopefully it'll start moving downward again for you real soon!
I am so glad to have found your post today. Even though this one is kind of old it helped me tremendously. I lost 20 lbs my first two weeks after surgery then I just stopped and I've been at the same weight for a week now. I really hope it doesn't last as long as some of the other posters. I told my husband "if I had surgery to lose 20 lbs I was going to be ticked!!!!" I will just keep my head up and look to the future. Thanks for your post.
I am now down about 68 pounds since my surgery - so....hang in there - I know how frustrating it is. I have gotten to a plauteau twice - once right after the surgery when I posted the above and then again in January. The January one lasted at least 2 weeks (maybe more) but then I went right back to losing it - slower then before, but small steady losses. I had the absolute same reaction when I hit the 1st plateau - OMG did I do this for this small of a weight loss??
I think the body has to react and readjust periodically. Does not make me happy but even though the second one lasted longer then the 1st I recognized it for what it was. I assume I will hit more on my journey and at least know its not the end of the losing - just a temporary pause.
Glad my post helped. Thats what makes this website so beneficial!
Wish you well on your future losses (and there will be lot of losses!). Let me know if I can help any further.

Well, I wish I could say I were eating right. My surgery was Nov 1, there were a couple of complications. After being released I twice went back to the emergency room. The second time they figured out my colon had collapsed so they re-admitted me to the hospital and put me on ice only for two days. The colon resolved itself and they sent me home. But by mid Dec. I still just could not get anything down. That's when they sent me in for endoscopy as my opening to my new stomach had closed! Finally after all that I was on the road to recovery. The good news is I lost 25lbs in 8 weeks...duh, I couldn't eat so of course I lost. Then in January my appetite came back with a vengence. I have not lost one ounce now in two months and am starting to panick.
I am an incredibly busy person, just started a new business, so exercise is once a week at best. And like I said, appetite has come back big time. I am going to try to be more diligent with the exercise and really focus on stopping and eating good food and not on the run. I also struggle with eating and drinking at the same time-that's just how I eat. That just seems to be a hard wire issue with me.
SOOOOO, anybody out there identify with me or want to give me some advice? I'm all ears.
