I also had my surgery on the 17th.  I have felt hungry at all, although the dinners my family have been eating look really good.  Maybe when you start drinking the protein shakes you will curve some of the hunger.

I'm having chest pain, I think it is from the anestesia and the free air.  I wish this feeling would hurry up and pass.

Hang in there and don't eat.  You don't want to cause problems that require more surgery.

Hi Diane,

Did the hospital send you home with the IS (incentive spirometer)?  That little breathing thing sure helped my lungs clear and helped with the chest pressure I was having.

Are you having any trouble drinking liquids?   I'm finding it a real effort getting all this fluid down.

I had a visit from a girlfriend that is 17 months out & has kept off half her body weight even after having a baby.  I was freaking chicken & beef broth for two weeks no flippin way.  I hate suger free popsicles & sugar free jello (funny after taste). She brought me Pho broth from a Vietnamese restaurant.  She order it no meat no veggies no noodles just soup.  She said they thought she was crazy.  She also recommended Wonton soup broth.   She also brought  Arizona Diet Green Tea & Welch's cranberry juice both drinks have splenda.  Although not a huge fan a I can make it through a EAS Advant EDGE Carb Control protein shake.  Hope the info helps I know I felt better.

I hate the aftertast of the sf foods as well.  I've tried diluting regular jucie with water and ice .... it's ok per the doctor... that has helped me some.

I'll give the vietnamese soup a try.... it's something that my husband makes, it just never dawned on me to have him make that.....  thanks for the idea.

I use the IS thingy. I also mix water and juice together because i hate the after taste. The only thing I have found so far that is really good is dulce de leche sf pudding. Ironically I didnt have a problem with regular tapioca pudding so maybe sugar wont cause dumping for me but I dont want to chance it again. I had some grits with Jimmy Dean sausage mixed in but they werent as "runny" as they needed to be so that hurt.  I ate one ritz and felt like I ate for days. I pureed some chicken noodle soup and it was extra salty.

I had surgery on 11/19 so just a couple days after you.  I'm sorry you haven't found the support you've been looking for.  It can be frustrating if you feel like you have no one to talk to.  You can always send me a message; we can exchange stories of how our surgeries went.

I'm still dealing with quite a bit of pain; I'm making sure to take the liquid OxyCodone every 3 hours as recommended by my doc (can take it every 3 hours instead of 4 since there's no tylenol in it).  I should be moving around more than I do but the pain is a bit too much right now.  I do make sure to walk around in my house & since my bedroom is in the lower level I have to go up & down the stairs to get my food & drinks which is helping me get in some movement.

Things will get better!!  I'm available to chat whenever so shoot a message if you ever feel like talking, have any questions, or just want someone to listen.

p.s.
Mrs. Grass (I think that's what it's called) soup (in the box) is super good.  I just strained out the noodles & the remaining broth is much better than any other broth I've tasted.  Maybe you could give that a try.

I had surgery Nov. 18, and today was needing something more than clear broths.  I'm able to start protein shakes tomorrow, so I had one early, very slowly over many hours.  That still didn't do it, so I opened a can of lowfat cream of chicken soup, diluted part of it a LOT and added a hint of chicken bouillion.  Again ate very slowly over several hours.  Didn't have any problems; and the cravings are gone.  Just be careful.  God bless.

I am doing a little better but the pain can be so bad at times. I am finding more things to eat on and I wish I had the courage to try a protein shake because my husband made me a Chilke shake and said it tasted bad and the last thing I want is to feel nausea on top of the soreness. My left side hurts far worse than anything else and the nurse told me it's because the dr stands on that side and the largest instrument is used on that side. I also don't know about the weight I am loosing. It's been 16lbs but It changes so often but it may just be my scale. How often should weight come off? I will start walking more this week as pain allows.

Hey everyone...I am a few weeks ahead of you and just want you all to know there is definitly a light at the end of the tunnel.  I had RNY on 11/2 and am down 40 lbs.  It is sooooo worth it.  I would say first and foremost DO NOT advance your diet beyond what you should.  I just moved to pureed food on Thursday and it is soooooo much better but it isn't worth pushing ahead.  If you eat something you shouldn't you won't just have dumping you could get it stuck and end up with a second surgery.  You have to let the inflammation from surgery go down so that the opening is big enough to allow things through.  As a rule if something would go through a funnel at room temp you can eat it at full liquid.  Also don't ruin the good thing you have going by eating the things you shouldn't.  I accidentally licked some icing off my finger when making cupcakes the other day and felt awful about 5 minutes later.  You should know that almost everyone's tastes change after surgery so if you liked something before it may be gross to you (ie too salty) and if you hated something else (like sf aftertaste) you might love it.  No one said it was going to be easy you have to change your life and accept the new adventures.  I know you can all do it.  If I can anyone can!!!!!!!!!
