WOW congrats on your 51 lbs holy cow!  Great job!  I'm glad you are home safe and sound, keep walking and drinking.  My mouth is always dry too, and I'm getting in ALOT of water.  My 1 week post op is Tuesday, looking forward to being able to  actually go to my own home and rest.  Keep up the good work;

Hey girl welcome home.  Thanks for the update.  I go in on Monday and I'm going to try not to be intimidated.

Fill us in more when you feel up to it!

Hey! I looked for you every time I walked the halls to see how you were doing but I never could see which room you were in. I felt the same exact way you described. I was dying for some ice or water the first night then the next morning when they brought me that medicine cup and said sip one per hour. I was like WHAT??? OMG!!! I wanted to chug them things lol. I had a pretty rough time in there too. My neck and back was killing me. The bed was awful and hurting my butt. I just wanted to go home. I was pretty bad still Thurs night when I got home but then Fri got a little easier. Today was the best so far. I got out of the house with no problem walked around. I been tolerating my liquids well. I am actually looking forward to puree foods just for something different. Hope your feeling much better now!

Hi Lady and Shana, too!  I think we had the same surgery date...11/03/09.  And I am in Maryland, too, but way out here in Western Maryland.  I had my surgery in Pittsburgh, which is only 2 hours from me, where Baltimore is 3 hours away.  Anyway, it's hard to find support from people who know what I am going through here in the mountains!  LOL!!

My experience was very much the same as you both describe, but honestly, it wasn't as bad as I had feared.  I did have to spend more time in recovery than I thought I would because some of my numbers were too high, and I don't remember ever having been so thirsty.  I kept asking for ice chips or something, but at least they gave me those little sponge sticks that I could dip in cold water and wet my lips and the inside of my mouth.  The bed was sooooo uncomfortable and the recliner in the room was even worse!  But, as I said, I wasn't as in much pain as I have heard others have been, so I was feeling pretty lucky.  :)

Still, it is so nice to be home and have the things around me that make me most comfortable.  Keep on healing and please let me know how you are doing.  As I said, the boards are about the only peer support I am right now, and I am extremely grateful for them.

Be well!!
