Damn, damn, damn -- I might have to slip to December
I just got home from an oral surgeon my dentist had sent me to. Turns out I have a large cyst in my jaw that has to be removed ASAP. They both said the bone left in my jaw is so thin my jaw could fracture if I bite down to hard on anything. That freaks me out!
Even though this has to be taken care of quickly, the earliest date I could get for the surgery is October 27. The oral surgeon told me the treatment after the surgery could take up to a month which would have me past Thanksgiving before the work on my jaw is finished. I had a smaller cyst removed almost 20 years ago and I remember the recovery is pretty painful since they have to cut bone. This cyst is much larger -- I'm even going to lose at least one molar because the cyst has grown around the roots.
I don't know what my WLS surgeon will say about all this. I called his office to warn them about this unexpected surgery but they told me to wait until my October 15 meeting with my surgeon. He can decide then if he needs to postpone my WLS surgery because of the jaw surgery. Part of me hopes not but, realistically, I'm not sure my aging body can handle two surgeries so close together.
Ah well, no sense worrying. It is what it is and it will work out the way it's supposed to. More will be revealed.
