Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that you don't have to go on Medifast - I think 4 weeks is at least $300 to buy on your own.
Just try to take the best care of you that you can, eat healthy when you can and keep yourself feeling well before surgery!

Do you have to cut out caffeine and soda?

Good luck and let me know if you do start a new diet, we can keep each other motivated!

Thanks!  I am really feeling like I ned to change programs!  It seems like everyone here gets such awesome care and I AM not hardly getting any.  We only have support group ONCE a month!  ONCE!  I need it each week!  I have a Pre  OP appointment before surgery but that is it.  Unfortunately, I find the coordinator hard to approach ---- Big Ole Sigh!  :-(

Hi, Ebony!  I just have to ask how you are able to have this surgery with such a low BMI?

Wow Renee... that is a long tme with no contact!!  I have 9 appointments between now and my surgery on 11/5.  I see the hospital staff for a 4 hour class, I see the bariatric nurse for something, I'm not sure what..lol.  I see the nurse practitioner to go over labs, I see my surgeon one more time, and I have to have a chest x-ray and ekg within 10 days of my surgery.  I also still need my Mammogram.  I think i have a nutrition appointment too.  Plus it is mandatory that I come in for weigh ins at least every other week.  Its so confusing I actually went and bought a binder last night so i could organize all my paperwork and appointment orders.  My surgical group has been phenomenal.  They have answered every question I have.. they have been very supportive and encouraging when I go in for weigh ins.  My surgeon spent over an hour with me the last appointment even though it was after 6pm when I finally got in to see her on a Friday night.  Maybe you should call your doctors office and tell them how you are feeling.  Do you go to a support group?  I find that helps me alot!!  At my support group through the hospital the doctors get involved too and are there to answer questions after the meeting.  Support is very important during this process.... I can see how you would feel 'lost'.  Waiting for the big day with no contact would drive me crazy!!  Make a phone call... and set up an appointment with someone.. if you feel you need to see the nutritionist or the pshych dr. I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to get you in.  It sounds like your Dr. group needs a better hands on support system...  10 weeks is a long time to go at this alone!!  I hope you get the help you need...  and your surgery date will be here before you know it....  Take care Renee.... and make that phone call!!

Hi Renee,

Medifast is not my favorite. That is about the nicest way I can put it. :)

Much to my own shock, I have stuck to it for 8 days now... yesterday I did slip and made a bowl of Campbell's soup. I had to go to Urgent Care in the morning and found out I have bronchitis. I went to my sister's while waiting for my prescriptions and that was the best thing she had that I could eat. I was so upset with myself, but when I got home I compared the nutritional info between that soup and a Medifast soup and there wasn't that much of a difference. (It was a Campbell's Select I think, with 100 calories per serving and .5 fat grams and 20 carbs per serving.) Certainly not the worst cheat!

I have been waiting all week to weigh myself today, but now I feel like crud and haven't left the house to buy a scale yet! I thought I would find out yesterday at the Urgent Care but they didn't have their own scale.

Bottom line for me - if you can be a good dieter, watch your calories, fat, carbs and protein, you could probably diet on your own to lose weight - even doing the slimfast plan would be very similar I think. If your surgeon has concerns about doing laparoscopic surgery on you, it is probably the fast, easy 2-week solution to shrinking your liver.

Then again, I'm no nutritionist! And I would find a way to eat a diet of cupcakes and donuts if I could.

Good luck!

Nicole
