Not all had passed from complications, but there were a few.
I've always known the risks, and have been willing to take them, but being faced with reading someones tribute to their loved one who passed from taking these same risks just puts it all into reality.
I know for every death, there are thousands of successes. I know deep down I'll be one, but still it's in my mind that something could go wrong.
I made a promise to my 10 year old daughter, that nothing would happen to me. I'm not into the habit of making promises I can't keep, but she needed reassurance.
So please, trust me, don't go there. It'll only serve to bring your fears forward and nobody needs that.
Don't beat yourself up, at least you have decided to do something NOW.
I am 58 and hope this means I will live to be 60.
RNY on Nov 5 in Utica, NY.

Like you say to get healthy and in my case I want to play with my granddaughter as she grows up.
Good luck and stay positive. (not going out of your mind like me)!!

You sound very positive and I know that will go along way toward your success.
I personally an not having the lap band, but rather the RNY on Nov 10.
I know I'm making lots of new friends here on the November board. Lots of different dates and surgery types, and lots of support.
Best of luck

Thanks for replying. My birthday is actually the 21st. I am very excited. I wish I had known about this procedure a long time ago. I lost 50 pounds and when I realized I was gaining it back I should have done something before it got out of control.

Hi Renee,
Your surgeon (or nutritionist) should tell you what to do to get ready in terms of pre-op diet. I put together a list of things to take to the hospital after reading posts on OH and looking at other sites. This is what I have:
Toothbrush & paste
lip balm
own pillow/case
lotion
extra socks
flip flops or slip on slippers
ipod
a shirt that buttons in front
blackberry
Your own toilet paper
robe / granny duster
face cream
deodorant
baby wipes
sweats
phone & charger
extra underwear
book, reading material
robe
back scratcher
Good luck! SG
It is all that is on my mind too. I have tried not to think about it, but it seems like now there is so much to do. It is almost like waiting for Christmas morning. Hard to sleep the night before.....
