I don't think you can take a pill.  First off, it wont be broken down and metabolized properly in your new cute little pouch!  lol...  And second... this is a heparin type drug, and I think only available in injectable form.
As for the leakage check...  My group does a fluoroscopy or upper GI on the second day after surgery to make sure there are no leaks present.  I am finding that my surgeon does a lot of things that others don't.  Maybe that's why she's never lost a patient!!  She is young too, and I think that makes a big difference... she has been trained with the latest technology and even robotics!  You know what they say about an ounce of prevention!!  At first I thought all this stuff was a pain in the butt... but now I am very confident that I am getting the best care I can.  And yeah... I'll jab myself with a needle twice a day to prevent a blood clot...  NO PROBLEM!!!

Its never too early to start losing!!  I took this very seriously the minute I walked into my surgeons office.  When she told me what I would have to do once I had surgery... I started doing it immediately... and I havn't looked back.  That meant no more Diet Pepsi, no more Arthritis drugs, no more carbs, and lots of protein!!!  I've lost almost 40 lbs in 3 months!  This is a lifestyle change... and I knew I needed to do it now or never.  Your doctor didn't require that you lose weight before surgery?  Most will have you lose 10% to shrink the liver and belly fat a bit, and just to see how your body responds to the weight loss.  It gets you in the mindset too because after surgery there will be big changes...  and its kind of hard to change overnight!  Most people take from 6 months to 2 years to get in prep for this surgery.  I wish you the best of luck... and the 7th will be here before you know it!!!  Take Care!

34 days until surgery...........

Good to know that I'm not the only one who is restless!   I'm cleaning, sorting, re-arranging, re-decorating, shopping, etc.  Started going for walks today.  Bought  4 kinds of soy milk to try in my effort to up my protein.

I haven't been told anything, but I'll be sure to ask at my PATs.   I didnt even know that was something that was done. I'd be better with a pill rather then injection since I'm afraid of needles LOL. But I'll do what I have to.

Has anyone asked if their surgeon check for leakage?  From what I understand, not all of them do. One of the ladies from my support group checked out 3 clinics before finding one that did.  I believe they check before you're released as well as during the actual surgery.

29 days and counting...

stayed on top of laundry and dishes, finished cleaning and insulating attic, organized children's book shelves and drawers, ate a good amount or protein and not many sweets, made sure husband knew where everything for kids were.
