Karirb,

It means you aren't taking small and enough sips - think of droplet sizes.  At this point you shouldn't be up chucking.  Another thought would be - what are you trying to eat/drink?  My Dr. still has my on my liquids only diet - I've found even on that scale there are some liquids I tolerate and others I don't.

Hang in there - it is all trial and error - u do need to work on not running to the bathroom otherwise you'll get dehydrated and that in no fun!!

Topic: 6 days Post Open RNY
I posted the below the day after I returned home on my AZ board.... thought it might be a little helpful.   Yesterday was my first full day home and I still only managed to get in 18 oz of fluids - never understood how that could be so hard, but now I get it - it is just hard getting in much liquids when you are just sipping drops at a a time!!  Looking forward to that getting better!!  Officially 6 days Post-op!
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Hello fellow losers!  I got home from the hospital last night.  Had my Open RNY on Tuesday at 12pm.

I had a couple of very rough days with being nauseous and just plain feeling awful.  I think taking the swallow test aggravated my tummy more. (only had the swallow test because I was so sick to my tummy and having dry heaves)

also my hubby said he thought I was taking too big of sips - which I thought I was taking small sips - but maybe my drug induced brain wasn't running fully charged!

Now the turn around occurred when I started walking religiously every hour regardless of how I felt, plus taking extreme baby sips - so more like taking little droplets of water.

I'd say for those just undertaking this - make sure you walk regardless how you feel, because amazingly it does make you feel better and take the most insane smallest sips of water - you can always take bigger sips as your pouch tolerates - but I think this was one factor really upsetting my tummy.  I was even to the point of thinking I would not be able to tolerate water, but the key was just taking in droplets.  I've never heard it worderd that way until I though of it myself - everything I've read says sip - sip - sip - but everyone's sips are different.  Play it safe and take in droplet size amounts until you can move up to a sip.

I'll update more later.

Don't forget a pillow....I was placed on a general surgery ward right after recovery and cell phones were not allowed as some folks had gotten pacemakers on my floor.  I would be cautious with that and the laptop.  Nurses will let you know if it is ok to use them.

I don't think you're overpacking. I brought pretty much the same stuff. Although, i didn't use my slippers. They had those nice slipper socks and they were good enough for me. I couldn't bend down to put my slippers on (they weren't slip-on) and I didn't want to have to bother the nurse everytime I needed to get up.

I need to be at the hospital at 5:15 am on Monday. I will be the first Lap RNY of the day. I was told by the nurse to only bring my hospital card and picture identification with me. I was planning on packing my robe, gown, slippers, walkman, cell phone, laptop, deodorant, chap stick, lotion, toothbrush, magazines, etc. Am I over packing? Thank you in advance for your comments.

Had my surgery the same day and doing well.  One nasty question, are you having any problem keeping food "in" ?  I eat or drink, and within an hour or two I'm in the bathroom, and not to go potty.  I'm assuming it's pretty normal since I basically haven't had any solid food for almost 3 weeks.  ???
