Topic: update from 11/10 rny surgery
i had my rny on 11/10 ended up being in the or longer than expected due to some leaks found.  ended up the 2nd day all out of it due to the morphine pump (i am sensive to narcs).  i finally started sipping on wednesday and then i started to puke for the next 2 days.  i was sensitive to the oil in the broth or fat.  i havent puked since i stopped taking broth.  i ended up staying 5 days total in the hospital.

i am drinking fine now.  not getting enough protein but i am slowly working on it.  its early out so i am not too worried about that yet.  slowly incorpating vitamins and tolerating it well.  i have no food cravings.  my left side hurts like a devil but i have just been using  hot compresses to relieve it. been doing a little walking.

i do think i was too ambitious to tell work i would return on 12/1.  when i go to the dr - i am want to extend it to 12/14.  i am a nurse on a busy floor and just dont have the energy level to do 12 hours of walking.

thanks

Topic: RE: Preop caloric intake
Mine is about 1000 calories and I am not hungry..the hardest part is trying to eat every 3 hours...

1800 calories is a lot of calories...I doubt you would eed that much unless you are reallyathletic..( as if a pre surgery person could be...?)

My surgery is in the morning and the hardest part of the pre op was...of course ..the mental stuff..no more cookise  no more bread...that sort of thing.  I really think the best thing to do is try hard to stay out of the food lane as much as we can...the bakery at the market, stuff like that is real hard to take...

I do just fine at home with my stuff all in it's place... Have to take the rest slow and keep the old head hunger in line.

All in all we just need to do what we are told and if we aren't willing we are in trouble anyway...  Good luck

Skippy also makes a really good natural pb.  I've been buying that for a while for my kids.  No other junk in it and it has less sugar/fat grams then the regular.  I also just got in my PB2 yesterday and tried it this morning in a sf carnation instant breakfast packet with skim milk warmed.   It had a nice creamy peanut taste.  I couldn't fini**** though.

You can get the PB2 at bellplantation.com or netrition.com.  I don't believe they sell it in stores.  I wish they would because shipping is terrible for a jar of it.

I use Smuckers natural creamy peanut butter. You have to stir in the peanut oil. It's sit on top. That's the only thing. It is really good. My doctor told me I could have creamy PB only. That was about it. He didn't really specifi a brand or other retrictions.
Hope this helps.

Lisa,

What about broth?  Did you do sugar free pre op?  If not it will take a while to get accustom to it.

My doctor told me that he did not believe in preop diets.  The day before my surgery I am to have nothing but liquids.  That is it.  he told me to eat what I wanted prior to surgery.
