Hello All,

Ok this is a question that I really need help with!  I had surgery on November 25th.  Recovery has been normal for the most part.  Now here is the problem I have -- I have had SEVERE DIARRHEA every since I had surgery...  I am still on all clear liquids until Tuesday.  Any advice or suggestions?

I have had 3 BM's since surgery on the 25th.  I think because I cleaned myself out so well prior to surgery --- almost a week on liquid diet, that there really is not much in there to come out.  I think I would call the Doc tomorrow if I were you.  Drink gatorade mixed with water so you do not get dehydrated.  {{{HUGS}}}

I didn't have that problem, but I've read that a lot of people have. They always say liquids in = liquids out and that it's normal. Good luck.

I had surgery the same day as you and starting on Friday night, I started having diarrhea.  I probably have gone 4-5 times/day.  I heard this was normal and since my urine still has a good color to it, I figured I'm good.  Good luck and make sure you do not get dehydrated, that would not be good!

Yep....normal.  I had it for over a week, I figured it was because everything I was consuming was liquid based so of course it was going to come out that way.  It does get better over time.

Honestly you are one of many many that have wondered about the diarrhea following surgery including myself.  Like people have said it is very normal because you are taking in liquids.  For me it didn't go away till I started on purees.  With all the research I did this was a surprise to me too.  It isn't pleasant but ends soon and then on to the opposite problem.

Take care!

I was the same way!  I had severe diarrhea for 11 days and my doc told me to call him if I still had it at 2 weeks.  At 14 days it was occassional but better.  He put me on flagyll and told me to come see him if it didnt stop in a few days.  It stopped completely.  I think its very normal.
Good luck.  unfortunately, I'm the opposite now.
