Just wondering if anyone has had a prior c-section before lapRNY and how they compared pain wise.  I have had 3 c-sections and know what that's like.  I know everyone is different but I would just like to hear your stories!  Thanks in advance.

I have had 3 c/s as well and wondered this same thing. Someone at the support group I attended answered this for me. She said the c/s was much worse. That after a day or so there was no pain with her RNY, she had open, as will I. The nurse at our support group said most people go home on tylenol or only take pain meds a day or two and that none of the patients were still on pain meds at their first post op visit. I know I took my pain meds a bit longer after the c/s so this must be easier to handle. Good luck.

I had 2 previous c-sections, and am 3 weeks post lap RNY. The c-section pain was alot worse for me, also. Plus, this time you won't be exhausted from taking care of a newborn with no sleep! I used the pain meds this time mostly at night because I toss and turn alot in bed, and that is the only time the pain bothered me after this surgery. Good luck to you!

I was just wondering the same thing. I did fine with 2 c-sections and figured if RNY was less pain/discomfort/soreness than the sections, I'd be stylin'.

First of all, Congrats on your surgery date!  I am just one day ahead of you.  Anyway, I have heard from over 40 people who have had c-sections prior to lap/open RNY and all but one said that their c-section was much worse.  For me, I am thinking that's awesome b/c I have had extremely easy recoveries from my c-sections, so exactly like you said, it RNY is easier than a c-section, I am flying high and stylin!  Are you on a preop liquid diet?  My md does not require one but I am doing one to get my liver as small as possible before surgery, to lessen the chances of any problems.  Let me know how you are doing!

Wow, lots of replies about c-sections being easier- YEAH!!  My surgeon required me to lose 10 pounds before surgery.  I started a self imposed LD on 11/2, but it quickly morphed into a high protein, 1000 calorie a day diet, which has helped me to lose 11 pounds.  I should be able to lose a bit more before surgery, I hope.

Glad to see all the people with dates close to mine. That will be nice sharing the journey and comparing notes with you guys.
