Did you have open or Lap procedure?  I get mine in two days and it is open.

Also, what do you mean the IV is the hardest part - what kind of an IV is it that makes it so hard?  Now I am worried!!

I had lap and I agree the IV is hard because you have been given no pain meds you are already nervous and it felt scary and painful to me.  But it isn't any different IV than typical.  Don't worry yourself about it because even with that said it wasn't bad.  For me it was like the beginning of the unknown.  But I didn't have any pain issues in the hospital that weren't addressed.

I had mine done lap.  To say the IV is the hardest part is both a joke and serious.  I am a hard person to stick.  Once the IV is in you, all you have to do is be wheeled to the OR, moved onto the OR table, then fall to sleep.  My wife had an open surgery done.  Your recovery time will be much longer and your pain worse, I'm sorry to say.

Ok, did I miss it, or why do we need help wiping our butts after surgery, if we didn't before?

Well, the thought is that if you can't "crunch" or contract your stomach muscles, you will have difficulty reaching and wiping.  The past two days has shown me nothing different that before surgery (except that I have to be aware of not "crunching" my stomach).  For some people it is a very difficult thing to do....wipe yer backside.  Your stomach hurts a lot after surgery.

You might not.  My BMI is 60 and I have a hard enough time now!  Imagine trying to wipe after just having your abdomen cut open?

I was thinking back to my csections and had hoped this wouldn't be any or much worse than recovery from that. I assumed it would be easier since that requires 8 weeks recovery and I'll only be off work 2 for this.  I wish I could wipe like DH does, he reaches around from the back, not through the middle of the legs.  Maybe only skinny people can do it that way.  ( or flexible ones)

It varies from person to person, surgery to surgery.  Just practice trying to wipe before your surgery so you do it without crunching.  Try different things like spreading your legs more, etc.  *shrug* I'm not going into any detail, just giving advice.

For those following my blog, I'm now day 8 post op.  Basically everything is the same.  Pain meds make me sleep, I sleep lots of the day, small times of small meals.  BMs are not something that I've done a lot of.  I still have some small nasuea but that might be associated with one of the meds I take.
