Hi Renee,
Medifast is not my favorite. That is about the nicest way I can put it. :)
Much to my own shock, I have stuck to it for 8 days now... yesterday I did slip and made a bowl of Campbell's soup. I had to go to Urgent Care in the morning and found out I have bronchitis. I went to my sister's while waiting for my prescriptions and that was the best thing she had that I could eat. I was so upset with myself, but when I got home I compared the nutritional info between that soup and a Medifast soup and there wasn't that much of a difference. (It was a Campbell's Select I think, with 100 calories per serving and .5 fat grams and 20 carbs per serving.) Certainly not the worst cheat!
I have been waiting all week to weigh myself today, but now I feel like crud and haven't left the house to buy a scale yet! I thought I would find out yesterday at the Urgent Care but they didn't have their own scale.
Bottom line for me - if you can be a good dieter, watch your calories, fat, carbs and protein, you could probably diet on your own to lose weight - even doing the slimfast plan would be very similar I think. If your surgeon has concerns about doing laparoscopic surgery on you, it is probably the fast, easy 2-week solution to shrinking your liver.
Then again, I'm no nutritionist! And I would find a way to eat a diet of cupcakes and donuts if I could.
Good luck!

Maybe it's a blessing in disguise that you don't have to go on Medifast - I think 4 weeks is at least $300 to buy on your own.
Just try to take the best care of you that you can, eat healthy when you can and keep yourself feeling well before surgery!
Do you have to cut out caffeine and soda?
Good luck and let me know if you do start a new diet, we can keep each other motivated!

I have not had to cut out anything yet. I will have to be on a liquid proteindiet 10 days prior to surgery. I plan to do strict Weigh****chers a month before! I got insurance approval today!
